Ok, so I originally planned on switching to verizon and I was dead set on the motokrzr, but the cost to switch is just going to be too much. I really don't want to have to deal with activation, and possible deposit, etc, not to mention I need unlimited m2m text messaging, because my g/f likes to text a lot, and well now that cingular has unlimted she's unwilling to switch. So anyway I figure why not stick with the company I've been with since 2001?
Cingular/AT&T (whatever they call themselves now) is what its going to be. I've had a pretty bad experience with my last 2 year contract with Cingular. In 2005, I paid $320 with a 2 year contract for a motorola MPx220, and honestly I loved it...at first. After about 8 months of ownership, the phone developed a short and started shutting off at random. I made a warrenty claim and got a refurbished MPx within a couple days, however after 2 weeks with my bad luck, I bumped my belt clip while in the bathroom and it landed in the toilet. Thats when I discoved the insurance I had been paying for my expensive phone would not cover it because its "a data device", and being unwilling to comprimise, I bought another one for $200 off ebay. That one lasted me untill May 2006, in which the sim card reader broke, and seeing how I switched it to a black casing, the warrenty was void, so I finally gave up on the MPx.
I ended up getting a V557 per friends advice. I loved the phone, and found that it had enough features on it, I didn't need the extensive features of a windows smartphone to be satisfied. Unfortunatly under normal wear and tear and keeping the phone in my pocket, the antenna worked its self free and stripped the threading on the casing. I tried to make a warrenty claim but cingular said it was physical damage and they wouldn't cover it. Finally I got fed up with constantly loosing signal from my now duct taped antenna and I bought a Nokia 6030 off ebay. As you can see, now you know why I'm leary of upgradeing and thinking about switching the verizon. if theres one reason at all I want to switch its because of cingulars crappy insurance policy. Right now its really bad because nearly all of their phones are classified as "data devices". Pretty much if it has an SD slot, its a data device, so pretty much any phone thats not a free phone isn't covered. And the phones that aren't covered, well you can buy off ebay for less than their $50 deductible. So as you can see cingulars insurance is completly pointless and stupid...save yourself the $6 or whatever you pay a month.
Anyway I've been doing extensive research on durability, quality, defects, etc. and what I've found is the Cingular Sync (Samsung A707) seems to be the best phone. I can testify from owning a samsung X427 that Samsungs are definitly durable and can withstand abuse, however the only thing thats stopping me is thinking about the shortcomings of the X427...wondering if this higher quality Samsung doesn't have the same problems. My X427 typically would run with 2 signal bars, and when it reached 2 signal bars, I could hear my friends, but they couldn't hear me. Also was very annoyed at the vibrating feature...please tell me the A707 can vibrate and ring at the same time! What is the point of having a phone that vibrates first and then rings? If samsung has fixed those 2 issues, and maintained their awesome durability, I'm game for the A707. Bluetooth, 2mp camera, mp3 player, thats all nice, but I really just want to get a good phone.
The reviews seem to deem it the best phone cingular has to offer for the money... what does everyone else think?
Heres what I'm looking for:
Realiability
vibrate/ring at the same time
Works when I need it and never drops a call (only the nokia 6030 has accomplished this feat)
No external antenna (something that REALLY makes me want the Sync... stupid V557)
And yes I would acctually like to have some cool features, the only reason I'm parting with my Nokia 6030, that besides being basic might be the near perfect phone
