The car is in great shape, the only complaint I have it with the transmission. It is geared very low for the purpose I have the car for. I commute 100 mi/ day, and much of that is in a 75 mile-an-hour zone. At 75 MPH, the RPMs hit 4200+. Redline is at 7000. It's an automatic, and I would like to go to a manual. The gear ratios are as follows:
1st: 2.647 : 1
2nd: 1.483 : 1
3rd: 0.974 : 1
4th: 0.725 : 1
140 hp @ 6300 rpm from a 1.8L, DOHC, 4-cyl., 16-valve engine. This engine is a Honda engine, and the vehicle is the same class as the Civic. Here's a page with all specs for this vehicle: http://www.g2ic.com/specs.php
1) What transmissions will fit this car?
2) Will a manual conversion be problematic?
3) Will a conserve a significant amount of fuel with a higher gear ratio and a manual transmission?
4) Being fairly mechanically-inclined and having a good working knowledge of cars, is this something I should take on myself?
5) What steps do I need to take to do it ?
