OK So I'll give you a point by point rundown. I'm 17 yrs old living in Australia. I'm getting my liscence in 3 months and have $4000 in the bank. Dad has agreed to go half with me on a car of my choice as long as it's manual, and I love the look of older cars particularly the 1985 BMW 3 18I (2nd han from 2000-9000 from what ive seen) or 1988 BMW 3 25I (samish price range). I want this car to last minimum 4-5 years. I am burning to know the answers to these because dad isn't sure:
- How expensive/ available (in AUS) are older BMW parts as far as upkeep in concerned? (most cars this old are going to have done 250,000+ kms)
- How reliable are 30 yr old cars? (note I'm planning on getting mechanic checkout before any purchase)
- What's the fuel consumption like on older cars?
- Finally, because it's old does this mean I will be needing to take it in for maintenance much more than say a late 90s modelled car?
