Looking for some military pen pals I don't have to pay for...?

I want to write to (email, preferably) some of the men and women who are serving their countries overseas but most of the sites that put you in touch with them are pay only, and I don't want to pay as I'm not in this for dating. US and UK people would be nice.

The Dear Deidre list is a bit old but I do have it, however I can't work out how to add addresses to eblueys- what's a department/sub unit or a ship name/unit? And do I need the recipient's email address to send them a bluey?
