I'm 20 years old and live in NYC. I'm a musician, singing is what I love and what I want to do, and I also write songs and play guitar. I've been in a few punk bands but nothing ever really worked out. To be honest, I've had a pretty tough go of it. I had to leave school in 11th grade for a few reasons, the predominant one being I needed to work two jobs in order to support myself and wanting nothing more than to sing, I was failing everything anyway and found it pointless to be learning every hours and hours of Chemistry, Latin, and Algebra. My parents weren't really around for me and weren't very supportive so I didn't even realize that going to a performing arts school was an option, and I regret that every day of my life. I'm not saying any of this to make excuses, I guess I'm just trying to explain what's led me to make some of the mistakes that I've made in my life

A few months ago, I got an audition for the national tour of a certain Broadway rock musical, and was pretty shocked how far I made it along in the casting process (I just literally worked harder than I can say in words! I spent practically 24 hours a day practicing!), and ultimately didn't get it only because of my lack of experience or training. So I feel like school (like a conservatory or performing arts school, something like an AMDA) would be a good start.

I'm definitely not the best singer in the world but I work really hard for it and have improved A LOT, and am willing to work even harder, to my absolute breaking point! I feel like I had a really rough start but I feel like I'm not getting any younger and now is the time that I must turn my life around and start working really hard towards what I want to do. That audition just made me realize that this really is what I want to do with my life, I guess I just need a bit of a kickstart.

Can anyone help me in finding a performing arts/music/theater/whatever school that doesn't require you to be a super amazing trained and polished talent (I don't have one of those huge Broadway voices, my voice is more in the style of a David Bowie or Elton John) and doesn't require that you've finished high school? If not a full-on school, maybe any workshops or programs or anything? I will do anything I can to get started working on this

Thanks so much in advance! I really really appreciate any help or advice I could get!
