I recnetly rebuilt a 1992 Kawasaki GT550 and im having running problems.
The bike will start first time, but doesnt idle very evenly. I noticed that pip number 4 is hotter than the rest, wth 2-3 the coldest.
-Engine has good compression
-New battery
-carbs stripped cleaned, split diaphrms replaced and balanced by hand- which is normally spot on.
-new spark plugs (all working fine)

swapping plug caps over doesnt make much diffrence. I tested to make sure i have a spark on all cylinders - and i do.

When i open the throttle up it revs quite good and all the pipes start to get hotter- but 4 is still the hottest.

I put 4 ltres of petrol in for getting it up n running.and there is an inline fuel filter i added as the inside of the tank looks a bit brown!.

I wandered if i need to take the bike for a good run, or something else?.
Im just looking for other peoples thoughts on the problem as im thinking: possibly coils, idle circuit partly blocked or jst needs a run
Ryde on- i ment unscrew the plug cap from 4 and put it on 3.. lol not just swap the firing order lol ;)
Ive decided to replace the ht leads and found that 3 of the leads for 1,2,3 were loose in the HT coil, so im guessing that a weak spark may be causing poor running at tick over. will check for vacume leaks once i have sorted out my exhaust problem- do a compression check and then if all else fails get the carbs balanced!. thanks for all answers
