I am new to the board I've had three back surgerys a laminectomy, spinal decompression and fusion l4-l5 l5-s1 with hardware and six months later had hardware removal it's been six months since last surgery and still in alot of pain doctor sending me to pain specialist for possible spinal cord stimulator or pain pump has anyone had one of these installed in them please let me know please.

Wow. You sure have been through a lot. I'm sorry you have had such a hard time. It will be easier with the help of the kind, knowledgeable people on this board. Look for a post entitled, "Spinal stimulator info" and you will learn an awful lot about spinal cord stimulators. When I asked this question, I was told that nerves take a long time to heal. When you have back surgery, they push the nerves out of the way and really make these nerves "angry" so its not too unusual to have pain for months and (I've learned recently) even a couple of years after surgery. I recently went to the Body WorlRAB exhibit at the museum and saw what these nasty nerves in our backs look like. THEY'RE REALLY BIG! I'm suprised that your surgeon recommended a spinal cord stimulator after only 6 months. Of course there could be more to your story and he or she is the doctor and I'm not but take a look at the post I mentioned. Its dated 6/21. Welcome to the boarRAB.

Hello and welcome to the boarRAB. You will find several people here who either have the stimulator or the pump...and you will find many more on the pain management board.

I have had 2 lami,/fusions l3-5, which both failed. I have recently had the stimulator implanted and it has done some good. As far as my pain management Dr. goes...and I love him to pieces, he said that both the pump and the stimulator are the last resort and I first had to try several other conservative treatments before the insurance would approve either of them. I had several different types of injections as well as radio frequency. When nothing worked for more than a few weeks, we then tried the stimulator.

Let me know if you have specific questions about the stimulator, I will be happy to assist you.

Hey thanks for the info. My pain started in 2004, My 1st surgery was in march 2005 I've been through pain management, physical therapy, had steroid injections, been on almost every kind of pain pills but to no avail nothings worked, had fusion surgery with hardware june 2007, and dec 2007 had hardware removed because screw came loose and body rejected the hardware.

I thought that I would suggest that if you start a new thread with the title of "Need info. on Spinal Stimulator/pump", you will find many people on the board that have had these put in. I would bet that you would get a lot more responses. Just a though;).
