Looking for help with 6682

I'm a n00b.

And I'm joining this forum so that I can see if any of you guys would know how to help me fix my new 6682, which I purchased off eBay from an "authorized" dealer... I read through the FAQs and searched the forum, but I couldn't find anything directly related to my problem.

Anyways, it works perfectly except the microphone doesn't work! I want to try upgrading the firmware, but I didn't want to spent the money on the cable if you guys don't think that will fix it. I have tried restarting it numerous times, but I haven't "reset" it, and I'm not sure that I know how to do that.

My firmware version is V 4.62.0 28-10-05. I believe that there is a newer version out there, but I don't know if it will fix my problem. After obsessively googling this for a day or so, I saw that some people have fixed it by adjusting a setting, but they do not say what setting it is or how to find out the information. The nearest Nokia service center is like 2 hours away, so I can't just drive up there to have them check it out.

Any advice is appreciated.

A data cable should have come with the phone.
I'm not sure, but I think 4.62 is the most up to date unbranded firmware.

I would try to return it to the ebay dealer since it seems he sold you a broken phone.
 
4.62 is cingular fw, and it is not most recent.

but yeah, a data cable should have come with the phone and afaik it is not that expensive.

I had like 5 6682s and never had a problem with the mic
 
I'm in contact with the seller. He normally tells people to return phones to the maker for warranty, but I looked this phone up and it says the warranty is expired. He has asked me to call him this afternoon, so I'm hoping he will return or exchange the phone. I really like it, so I just want a phone that works.
