Looking for Cricket Files/Information

Hey All,

I bought a Moto V265 that had been flashed from Alltel to work on Cricket (PRL flash, i think). Anyway, it works perfectly, with two minor problems that i would like to resolve.

1) The MMS (Picture) Messaging doesn't work. When toying through the menus and settings, i discovered that it is still attempting to send/download through Alltel's MMS server. I have re-activated the phone a few times with cricket personell (which i really didn't expect to help), to no avail. Anyone know where in the phone programming, or with TSP/seem editing that i can edit the MMS settings?

2) The BREW doesn't work. I found where i can change the settings using Motorola's TSP 7.1.1, and it is all still set to alltel's BREW server settings. These i can edit pretty easily.

What i am really asking for, is does anyone know where i can edit the MMS server settings, and what they should be edited to? Also, does anyone know the settings for the cricket BREW servers?

TIA

NaeS

P.S. i have the settings for alltel's BREW server, if anyone neeRAB them after flashing from cricket/verizon to alltel.

Figured it out, i think. haven't tried it yet, but here's whats up.

The reason MMS wasn't working (or so i think), is this. in the MMS settings (message>message settings>MMS message setup>Server Info), that still said it was connecting to Alltel's MMS server. So after a seem edit, i could change this information (instead of just viewing, or "copy all text"). I changed this all to cricket's information (stole it from my old E310 with TSP).

Even after changing all this to Cricket, there was one more setting that i couldn't fix. That was the "Web Session Name". There was Alltel 2.0 (i assume is for WAP access) and Alltel MMS. Selecting either of these didn't work.

Then, I bought a brand new cricket-branded V265 from mot.com, and started reading information off it with TSP and Bitpim.

(side note, to read the RTT data and a few other settings, you need to run a more recent version of TSP, 7.1.1 didn't work for me. I found 7.2.3 worked nicely).

I started finding traces of alltel in the filesystem of the V265, specifically

/nvm/seem/syn_device
/nvm/nvm/nvm_0005
/nvm/seem/wap_elem_d
/brew/prefs.dat
/websession

notice, these are the files i found with "alltel" in the data fielRAB...there might be more.

the file that really caught my eye was the /websession file, because it contained the information for the websession field that i couldn't change! so after looking around and realized that the files are standard, i flashed the Alltel one with the one from my OEM Cricket V265. This changed the web session, but still wouldn't work. So, i figured there's something else stopping me from getting my precious, precious, MMS.

after comparing with the same files on the OEM cricket V265, i began contemplating editing these files, replacing only alltel information with cricket information from the Cricket V265, but decided not to until this weekend (when i don't REALLY need the phone operational, in case i brick it).

then, after reading the motorola stickies (which are an excellent insomniac read, i might add), i found the programming menu (yeah yeah yeah, i should've found earlier, what can i say. i'm a n00b)...then, voila! found the setup for the websessions, and the Brew config. I figure i'll set the alltel phone to the cricket settings, and try again.

I'll post my findings after i try this (the phone is currently at my office).

P.S. time for a n00b hacking idea question: i was looking through the BREW settings with TSP, and found that there are two boxes i can check and un-check. Check pre-pay, and prepay phone. If i uncheck these, think i can get free brew? or do you think cricket would catch on real fast first time i did it, and do something nasty?

nevermind, my phone was in my car.

Anyway, so check it out. Just now, i put in the websession info, the BREW info (read somewhere that BREW and MMS share some settings), the 1XRTT info, and the MMS info.

Now, the phone gets further than before. It switches into "packetdata" mode, and tries transmitting/recieving, but ultimately fails. I double checked all the settings, and everywhere you go it says cricket, and %[email protected], etc.

one more thing i noticed: my Cricket OEM V265 and my OEM Cricket E310 both have the 1X indicator for service, while the unlocked alltel V265 shows the D in the box [D].

i'm not sure if thats related or not, but i'm just looking for any discrepancies. anyone know how to correct/fix that, so the phone is always in 1X mode like the others?

also, is it possible to build a flex/firmware/monster pack from a phone running the software? another thing i thought about was flexing the phone with cricket firmware, but i can't find any anywhere. can i extract it, so to speak, off the Cricket OEM V265? or can someone point me in the direction where i might find a flex/monster pack for it?

Besides flexing, i'm out of ideas. can anyone offer any suggestions of things i haven't tried?

The indicator on Alltel phones defaults to showing [D] even when it really is 1X. You need to edit seem 41A - ORABet 74 - bit 7 to 1 and it will show 1X. Functionally though, it does not make a difference. Also, the prepay flags in Brew will have nothing to do with the billing for it.

thanks for the response! i figured it was just an indicator thing.

can you think of anything that i might be missing? or is it that the different firmware has a different way of retrieving SMS?

AGH! i was enjoying this until i got to the end. this really neeRAB to be figured out. im thinking of buying a VC3 from ebay (verizon one) and putting it on cricket, and i assume im going to have the same problems as you are. : /

I assume you're talking about the RAZR, (V3C, if i'm not mistaken).

Cricket came out with a V3C of their own, and thats what i would suggest.

I'm still trying to find a way to extract a flex/firmware from the phone...i'm not so sure it's possible.

maybe i'll mess with it if i get another, newer phone, and i don't care what happens to this one.

yea, i meant to type V3C, i was practiacally running out of the door when i typed that lol. but yea. the thing is, is that i dont want to pay 300 bucks for the phone.

With BITPIM I can make a complete backup of the file system and it packs it all in a zip file. Does the software for Motorola phones have a similar function? Can you just flat out copy all the files and folders to your disk drive? I have an audiovox 8910 from alltel that I use on cricket with the same problems as you, right down to the 1x indicator. If you can get a copy of the files from that OEM Cricket V265, could you send me the set? I'd like to have a look at Cricket's parameters and compare to Alltel's. I can directly edit the files with the HEXEditor program I have and load them back on my phone. My sturabling block  has been not knowing any of Cricket's settings. I see all the Alltel settings in my files as well and would change them if only I had an idea of what. Your help would be greatly appreciated, PM me and I will give you my email if you can get the files. :help:

yeah i can do all that. i've bitpim'd the backup of my phone before.

but what i'm asking is, that won't update the firmware/flex. anyone know how to build a flash/flex from an OEM phone?

To get cricket brew to work (AKA Cricket Clicks) which is just being able to download the apps they have avail.- ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc. You have to go to the store or over the phone (*611 i think on a cricket phone) and have a sales rep. activate your cricket clicks. I think it's $20 and $10 or $15 of which goes into your flex bucket, which is where your funRAB for downloading brew are stored. hope i helped. (try going in and telling them you want cricket clicks activated, just bring a $20)!

done this...it doesn't help if the firmware/flex/settings are not set to use the correct network.

as for getting closer, no i haven't. I have yet to find anyone who can build a flash/flex from an OEM phone...so for now, i'm just using my OEM phone for all of my downloading 8-bit ringers, until my $5 flex bucket ran out, so now i just use a data cable to get my crappy 8 bit rasterization of my popular hip-hop songs. woo.

when i had my v265 i got the cricket mobile web to work on it and there is a trick i learned that if you send yourself "http://www.google.com" in a txt and go to menu and goto it will open it in the browser if you have wrote the correct settings to the phone or you can enter them in at the programing menu after you crack the subsidy lock not too hard if you can do seems. the correct settings are on this thread http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=935416
they also work on my v710 on cricket!!!

good luck, patnkem

trying similar steps might work on other cricket phones with browser

I am trying to program a old nokia 3285i to cricket to check out the coverage before i port my home phone, I have the following info in my phones NAM2 but its still not picking up service:
SID= 4945 (portland, OR)

Do I also need the CDMA channed A and channel B codes if cricket uses PCS?
