Looking for a painting in the Louvre?

I'm looking for a painting I saw in the Louvre last year. It was in the French section. It's a woman in a white gown reaching for a ladder that's being pulled up to the sky by a hand. It's a very dark, depressing painting. I can't find anything on the internet... just wondering if anyone knew the name of the painter.
