Looking for a New Phone (had 637 and liked it): V3, SLVR, or z520

I'm looking to replace my 637 for various reasons, one being that i left it on the train on my way to work earlier this week. the only thing i didn't like about it is the oversensitive mic which picked up a lot of ambient and wind noise. i've been looking around and the 520 looks nice, but from what i recall the SE flips are real bulky and i've yet to hold this one in hand. how is it?

also looking at the V3. it's nice and small, but i've been a candybar fan for a while (have had a v300), so i do prefer that form factor.

now, i've read the entire thread on the SLVR and it seems like cingular (the provider i'm looking to use this new phone with) MAY get it in Q1/Q2 of '06, but no one seems to know for sure. i REALLY love the form factor of that, between the size and candybar shape. i'm wiling to wait, but not into Q2, so it's "now" or never with that one. and i'm not going to go spending $1k on that phone. also would be willing to consider the L6 if it had 850.

i also have a blackberry 8700 so i'm not looking for a lot of goodies, i just need a small, relatively basic phone (WITH BLUETOOTH) cuz i don't take my BB everywhere like i do my phone.

So here are my requirements (in no order):
-Small (fits in suit jacket pocket comfortably)
-Bluetooth
-850 and 1900
-Preferably candybar form, but depends on the specific phone.
-Good-to-excellent RF
-good UI (especially phone book features)

any suggestions other than the V3, SLVR, or 520? and of those which are the best for my requirements?

moto's have a notoriously bad phone book. You don't have multiple entries per contact, and no contact notes, etc. SE has the best in that regard. Additionally, you are looking for bluetooth--SE has the best implementation of this that I've come across--from transferring contacts/sync, to ear piece--fantastic. Finally, the z520 is the smallest phone that you mentioned in your post. It is much lighter than the v3--you should look at these phones--the v3 has a narrow AP diameter, but it is really WIDE.

I have owned and used extensively the v3 and the v551, and the z520 takes the cake of all the phones that you are looking at.

are there any huge benefits to the 750 other than the camera, cuz i'm not wild about the camera part of camera phones. i just really don't need one, and i find that 99% of the time i find i would like my camera i have it.

plus with no carrier having it, it's a little more expensive than the 520 for pretty much the same features unless i'm missing something.

Yes, this is all true, but the z520a looks like its for an 8 year old, the menus and looks of it are cheezy. The razr has a dignified slick look, while the z520a DOESN'T! Looks alot better than the z500a, but the RAZR still looks 20x better. But this is just my opinion.

Here's my humble opinion:

The Moto menu's suck. Everyone knows that. :P But if you're quick learner/adapter then you'll grow used to it. If you chose the RAZR, go for the V3i. I myself am waiting for the SLVR L7 as it's pretty much a RAZR (minor differences) except in a candybar shell. My opinion would be SLVR if money isn't an factor here, cause the L7 is pricey.

Listen, the motorola menus are not as bad as everyone makes them seem. I swear if i read one more post about "the menus suck!" im going to go crazy. Yes they arent quite as refined as SE and I know this because I have SE phones. The thing is, the menus arent so much worse that I would never get a motorola. I have and use motos every day and rarely have problems with them.

I can speak as a former t630 user, having used both the v3 and the z520..

I went through 3 razrs in 29 days, for various hardware defect issues, but the horrible menu's and functionality was a constant.

I went from the t630 into the world of smartphones, and then moved into the world of smartphones to full fledged pocket pcs, so I have my axim to do all my pda work, and when I decided to choose a standard phone to companion my axim, I went with the razr. There is really nothing besides the form factor that appealed to me. Everything was slow, and the graphics I found horrid. The third time I went into best buy to get an exchange, I choose a z520a and saved not only money, but also saved myself from tons of headaches.

The z520a, I personally feel beats out moto's outdated operating system by far. Its also very easy on the eyes and too the touch, the light effects are pretty snazzy. The only thing I wish I had was EDGE. I don't know why its so damn hard for ANYONE to make a decent flip phone with EDGE..

I'm also looking at a new phone. I was looking at the z520a and i wondered if i should i get it? I met this guy that was selling it for $150 brand new never opend
and i wonder if i could trust him. Can anyone help me out or give me some tips? thnx.

i personally dont like the v3 just because EVERYONE has it..
i read somewhere in this thread someone suggesting the k750 as a substitute for ur T637.
Id say dont do that either. The k750i may have decent reception but i found call quality to be a bit iffy at times. Sometimes good, sometimes bad. Most likely due to the lack of the 850 band.

I've never had a z520 but i havent heard anything bad about its call or build quality

hope this helps a bit

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to agree with the majority.. I have many friends who have morotolas, and being able to play with them constantly day in and day out, I've grown to hate them, just because they are so ugly, look the same (some can change themes, but basically still the same), and unless you have everything memorized, IMO Its a really crappy UI to start out with.

Yes, you were right the first time, SE's UI's ROCK!

I love how easy it is to customize motos. who cares if the UI isn't beautiful? It works quite well for me and I think it all depends on where you come from. I started using motorolas before anything else and I actually feel more comfortable with them than I do with anything else. I actually prefer to use it over Sony's UI and I know that might seem blasphemous. I used a w600 for a couple of months and didn't find it to make my phone experience better in any way. Certain things such as the phonebook were obviously better, but again, not by so much that I didn't want to return to motorola.

I respect your opinion and I think its valid, but IMO, all the venom spewed toward moto is just ridiculous.
