Looking for a excellent Back Surgeon in the Plano or North Dallas area. I'm currently seeing Rob Dickerman, but want to get a second opinion because I can't find anyone that has used him for their surgery. Thanking you in advance.

I am currently and have been going to the Back Institute in Plano. I will be having a two level fusion of the lower back on Dec 29,2008. My doctor that I go to is also the President at the back institute. His name is Richard Guyer, it may take a month or so to get in and see him, but then again if you hit it just right when you call you may get right in. I trust and like him. My mom had a fusion done on her neck and he did her surgery as well.

thanks for the info. I will check into seeing him. Best wishes on your surgery. I hope to have a surgeon lined up and having my surgery in Deceraber as well.

I had a 360 two level fusion in July of 2006 with Dr. Steven Courtney at Plano Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. His staff is so warm and approachable. as well as reachable. I never felt like I was left hanging on the weekenRAB-I was always told to call if there was a problem and one of them would get back to me-they always did!
My new pain management doctor says my fusion is one of the best he has seen. I was fusing well at 3 months-fuklly fused at 12 months. Everything was great till my 18 month follow up(yes they were still doing follow-ups-every six months at that point!). We found scar tissue had developed-not the doc's fault-how my body healed. I can lean back pretty far from the waist and can lay my palms flat on the floor-no I don't have REALLY long arms-lol. I am just flexible even with L4-S1 fused. I had the choice of Presbystarian in west Plano or Baylor-I took Baylor. Try to get a surgery early in the week!!!! Try not to have to be in over the weekend. I found the level of care to be drasticly dofferent!
Dr. Courtney used to be Head of Orthpoedics at Plano HCA before he formed this group. Who ever you choose-try and get more than one opinion!!! Go see both if you can to get a feel for the doctors and their opinions.
We will be here for you!
Blessings,
Michelle

I had met with three surgeons - Carmody, Hostin, and Dossett. I also got three very different opinions. I loved Hostin - he was friendly, realistic, not arrogant and was concerned about whether my family was supportive of the whole procedure and recovery. I felt like he would really take it personally if the surgery didn't go well. Definitely get multiple opinions. I'm quite confident that these three surgeons are VERY good at what they do. I just really liked Hostin. Good luck.
