Looking for a good "Beginner" Street Bike.?

I was looking into getting a Street/Sport Bike. I have experience with DirtBikes and I rode a Honda Rebel 250 for quite some time, but I'm looking to move up to street/sport bikes. I'm Not extremely daring nor am I one to take unwarranted risks. I'm Married and just looking for something to get me back and fourth to work/school. We only have one vehicle and her work is not on the bus route, but my work and school are.... and I'm not fond of public transport and for the price of a monthly buspass I could probably fuel a bike for a month as little as I'd travel.. Not to mention I hate public Transit. So, I'm looking for suggestions on a good beginner bike. I'm 6foot and 250lbs. My friend said a Kawasaki ZZR600 would be ok for me since I have a little experience, BUT he's also selling his ZZR600, so I want to know if it's really a good choice or if he's trying to pawn it off on me. So let's hear it, What do you think is a good bike for me at my height and weight?
