looking for a gadget where i can download movies on that uses a usb cord than plugging..

...it into my dvd player? my new hdmi dvd player says i can use the usb outlet to watch .avi and any type of movie file.
i was just wondering if there's something out there that i can plug into my computer and download a bunch of movies on than watch them on my dvd player.
sorry i'm a noob.
