A perfect example of what I'm looking for would be Skip Beat; the female protagonist starts out terribly pitiful but slowly fights her way into happiness. PLEASE, DO NOT JUST NAME ME A LIST OF SHOUJO MANGA THAT YOU COPY/PASTED. I normally hate shoujo and other story lines with a female main, but I've always been in love with princess/Cinderella themed plots. The protagonist must have something special about her that makes her worthy of the leading role.
