Looking for a car charger that won't come unplugged!!

I don't know if its my phone, cheap car chargers, or both, but I can't seem to keep the damn things plugged into my phone! The connection is loose and the cord just pops right out. (The coiled cords on the chargers doesn't help) I don't know that it's my phone, though, because my Nokia wall chargers have no problem staying firmly in place.

So, should I just bite the bullet and buy an official Nokia charger or are they not any better?

ahh excellent post, as i have the same problem!! wall charger is fine, car charger pops out CONSTANTLY. i bought a nokia charger from ATT. it works better with my n75. if you try out the official nokia charger, do let us know if its better.

sounds like its not just your phone that does this.

I'm thinking I may try this: http://europe.nokia.com/A4317011
And buy a 12v USB adapter. That way I can charge my iPod, phone, and anything else, really. (Those Jawbone headsets are pretty slick, and they charge via USB)

this looks cool, except how would this be used in a car? i have a 120V converter in my car, so i could just use the wall charger. but that's not efficient. i really wish they would make car charger without the stupid coils. just like the one you linked, except that's for usb only, right?

No.
There's no locking mechanism for cigar lighters, only tension.
Get a socket splitter, splice into an always-on power circuit and tape them into position - then you don't have to keep the ashtray open and can have it somewhere outa the way.
I have a 4-way splitter to power my GPS receiver, N95, 6680 and laptop adaptor.

you can run all those off one line without the breaker tripping out? did you have to put in a larger fuse? guess i could tap into a 25A fuse if there is an open one. but i already have my cig lighter. so where do i get a socket splitter?

Stop clucking, woman !
Just tap into the electric seat supply and go to the best known outlet for socket splitting ... eBay.

Hell, you can just use the existing cigar lighter - they pull some fairly hefty ampages.

The inverter to home charger is one option you can consider. You can get a basic inverter at Target, Best Buy or any of those places for about $20.

change car...

ok, seriously i find the Nokia car charger very good fit, also if it is loose, you can actually try to open up the side connectors more to give a better fit, its that simple...

Wirelessly posted (Nokia 6620: Mozilla/5.0 (SymbianOS/9.2; U; Series60/3.1 NokiaN95-3/11.2.009; Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 ) AppleWebKit/413 (KHTML, like Gecko) Safari/413)

To clarify, the charger connection to the PHONE is loose, not the 12v cigarette plug. That's just fine.

You can buy a 12v adapter with a standard USB plug on the other end, you can charge any USB device with it.

That's what I have, it won't stay plugged into the phone for the life of me. I've tried a few other chargers in the store, they all seemed pretty loose.

Update: The USB charger (CA-100) came in, today. It works great, but the cord is--and I'm not joking--2 inches long. I can only see it being useful plugged into a laptop. I don't think the cord would be long enough to use with a desktop computer, unless you have a USB hub you could set it on top of.

That being said, I think it will be a perfect addition to my laptop bag. I have a charger in my overnight bag but not my laptop bag. If I'm on a day trip and only bring my computer, I'll be able to charge my phone, now!! (Had Nokia used the USB port to charge the phone, this wouldn't have ever been a problem. Not sure what their problem is...)
