Im trying to decide how much I wanna spend on a second car. I can buy an 05 ford taurus for $5,000 with just under 100,000 miles (like 99,000) or I can spend another thousand bucks and buy an 05 taurus for $6,000 with something like 80,000. Which would you choose? Both have decent service records, so they're both in the same condition aside from miles.
I ask this because someone told me "once you get into high mileage cars, mileage doesn't matter as much as condition. So a car that has 120,000 isn't any worse than a car with 100,000. They're both so high it doesn't matter"
What do you think? Is it worth it to pay an extra $1,000 for slightly less miles or not? What if the higher mileage car was in better condition with more service records? Would that make it better than a lower mileage car that has no service records? Fyi: I drive about 12,000 miles a year and plan on having this car for at least 4 years. If I bought the higher mileage car that had 100,000 miles on it at that rate in 4 years, i'd be at 148,000 miles. Can I expect to make it that far if I take good care of it?
Lots of questions. Any help is appreciated. I want to go into this car buying experience as smart as I can so please, make me smart!
