Long lines at Rio Carnival Buffet (and others)?

What are your ticks for avoiding long lines at the buffets? Can you go to the head of the line if you are staying at the hotel, of if you have their "gold card", gamble a lot, or maybe just ask? Any other ideas are welcomed.

Also, for the Rio are there certain hours when the lines are less?

Also, the Sunday AM Carnival Buffet is so crazy busy I just give up on it - just not worth it. Unless someone has some ideas to get sent to the head of the lien.
 
When we stayed at the Bellagio, they gave us some "line passes" because we were staying in a penthouse suite. It got us right to the front of the line every time we went. I think you can BUY those passes too. Ask the desk.
