Long distance riding secrets...

I just finished a 1000 mile IronButt ride in a little over 16 hours. The Russell Day-Long seat, cycling shorts, pants without a lot of seams and not having a wallet in my back pocket were key to feeling good at the end of the ride. The Russell Seats are great, my wife and I rode up to Shasta Lake, Ca and had the seat custom made/fitted to our butts.

UNDERARMOUR UNDERWEAR!!!!!! 9" long, don't get the short ones.
I ride as a motorcop ALL day long and we all use it. It WILL keep your butt from getting chapped, no matter how long the haul or how hot it gets. Just be prepared to pay $19.99 a pair. Well worth it though. Trust me, trust me, trust me on this one.

You have to love to ride long distance other wise seats ,covers or what ever you can spend your money on makes some difference, you will always and will have some sort of discomfort no matter but that gets offset by the fun factor. It's like hang over but getting to that point is lot fun.

I just tried the Under Armor-type shorts yesterday on a 330-mile ride and they made a believer out of me. Under Armor isn't available up here in the sticks but Wal-Mart carries a similar product by Starter called Dri-Star that runs about $10/pair.

I applied a generous amount of Gold Bond powder when I put them on, and I re-applied once about midday. I could have ridden another 200 miles easily. By way of comparison, the day before I rode 140 miles with cotton boxers and I was miserable for the last 30 miles. Just so you know, I'm running a stock seat on my E-Glide and both days the temp got to about 90. Couldn't believe the difference.

Havent tried the Starter brand, but I am a firm believer in the UA. Definitely worth the money for the twins and the cheeks. Both riding and not. As an added benefit they can easily be washed in a sink while on the road and dry by the next morning so you dont have to pack as much underwear.

Might have been stated before but I highly suggest an adjustable backrest, floorboard extensions, comfortable gloves, under amour underwear, Jox Sox or under amour socks, luggage rack, If you don't have factory cruis get on of those aftermarket throttle locks, Cell phone and credit card and be sure to have a good selection of mp3's or cd's if you like music. Oh, and sunblock.

Well, If your bike has air adjust, for 2008 and back try 18 lbs single and 24lbs double. Been hearing good things about Harleys hammock seat too... Not sure of the durability though.

It's about time somebody is honest! My a$$ kills me when I ride long distances. I still ride my 600 to 700 miles per day, but I'm nearly crippled when I arrive at my room for the night.
