Long distance riding secrets...

+1 on the Anti Monkey Butt powder, and what I have found useful are the old automotive beads. Lets the air circulate on warm days and I especially like them in the rain. They drain and eliminate the sitting in the puddle effect of sheepskin. Not as pretty. but pretty cost effective. --- Tom

You well have to break the butt in for long days. I could do 500+ miles last fall with know problem, and am feeling the pain, with 50 mile rides this spaing. I also highly recomend the beaded seat cover. I had to take it off, this winter, because the junk was getting to cold, that tells yous that planty of air is flowing under the butt, to get rid of sweet.

I'm surprised no one mentioned www.day-long.com Russell Seats. I'm saving up my money for one of those. Have already changed the handlebars, and added backrest, highway pegs, Mustang seat. Oh yeah. Don't forget the earplugs. Cast in place ones work best.

going commando is definately a good chice... helps a ton... allthough i have not tried body armor yet, letting the boys free is a good trick

Mustang seat and a sheepskin make a huge difference. Stay hydrated and plan the longer stretches early in the day, when you're fresher. "Training" is important, too. I have ridden in 46 of the continental 48 with two of my friends. The trip to California was fine as everybody was in riding shape with some long days and a few thousand miles already in for the season. Two years later, heading to Washington State, one guy had issues because he had very few miles in for the year. We covered 7,500 miles in 15 days that year.

A couple of other things to think about...sunscreen andsnacks at stops (can't beat gatorade and beef jerky).

We carry water, move around a bit, keep the rides down under 500 per day for long trips and enjoy. Must have gotten old along the way.

The big thing about the underwear or Anti-Monkey butt is because when your jeans get wet, you don't slide around in them as easy. Remember the last time ya fell or got thrown into the swimming pool with your jeans on. When ya got out, you jeans were stuck to ya. The same thing with a little bit of sweat. Your skin and jeans are fused together so ya get the Indian Burn thing going. The old Indian Burn thing was when you were a kid and someone would grab your arm with both hands and twist in different directions. The wicking underwear and the AMB stuff will keep you skin sliding in you clothes. Wearing loose fitting jeans will help also. If ya get caught in the rain, it's gonna be tuff getting things dried out enough.
