i just bought a 1984 c20 6.2 diesel service truck. this is my first diesel. SO when driving up small hills i lose power, bigger hills i can only do about 45mph. its not revving loudly and i have it floored. any idea if this is normal on this old truck or is something wrong? thanks for the help

Either your rings are worn or you're trans//torque converter is slipping.
Check your trans fluid,it should be kind of a cherry color not dark or mikly. Also look for metal shavings.
Diesel engines use high compression to inite the fuel instead of spark plugs. As far as the rings, you need to do a compression test. Those 6.2's should run about 22/1 compression.
FYI,I worked on those type of trucks in the Army from 86-90.
