Little girl complaining her bum hurts - what could this be?

Hi, my four and a half year old daughter is occasionally waking late evening and telling me her bum hurts. At first we thought it was because she was not wiping her bum after having a wee and so was getting sore like a baby does, so we used to put cream on, but it never helped.

More recently when she complains of it she needs a wee, and will cry out in pain when she has a wee, so one would think 'cystitis', as she also complains of lower abdominal pain. However, after some medicine she will go back to bed and the following morning she is as right as rain, weeing with no problems or pain whatsoever.

I'm stumped as to what this could be. We are planning on visiting the GP after Christmas but just wondered if anyone had experienced the same thing with their young ones? We've looked into food allergies but there's no pattern to what she's eating on the nights it occurs - it probably happens about once a week.

Many thanks.
Leslie - I was going to take her the next day when she first had it but then she was running around and weeing normally so it seemed silly to and I figured it was a one-off. She's going straight after Christmas. I do find it unlikely thought that a UTI can come on for one hour in an evening and then disappear magically the next day!
LOL at Nurtle, not the answer I was looking for but it made me smile after a very shitty stressful day!
