linksys dual-band wireless-n usb network adapter problems?

ok I have a Linksys Dual-Band Wireless-N USB Network Adapter to connect to my dads wireless router in another room and then from the wireless router to the DSL modem when my computer goes into sleep mode after I wake it up the USB Network Adapter will only connect to the router and not the dsl so my question is what is the problem and how do I fix it? and I also have Windows Vista Ultimate
