LinkedIn has become one of the premier career building websites in the world, and it has amped up the mobile experience on Android and iOS today. The company enabled advanced job searching from mobile devices a few months ago, but now you can apply for most jobs directly from your phone or tablet.
LinkedIn tracks how users interact with the service very closely and has noticed that one-third of members that search for jobs are doing so from mobile devices. Some people don't use the website at all. This makes the new application process a potentially big deal for LinkedIn.
Touchscreens do not lend themselves well to filling out detailed applications or managing resumes, even when with interfaces designed for mobile. So LinkedIn has done something completely different. When you go to the Jobs tab in the LinkeIn app, you can check out positions as before, but now the Apply button will fill out an application for you, and use your LinkedIN profile in place of a traditional resume attachment.
Note that some employers won't support this method of applying, and will instead have an "Apply on Company Website" button instead. There is also a Save button in case you don't want to apply on your device, but prefer to check it out later on a computer.
For those that will accept your application via the LinkedIn app, you'll get the chance to correct any outdated or incorrect data in your profile, as well as verify your contact information. Most fields in the application process are auto-populated from your profile and shouldn't need to be changed.
This feature is rolling out today on Android and iOS but only to English-speaking users at first. The iOS and Android apps have seen some recent updates to improve the overall experience, so searching for jobs from them ought to be great.
