Lincoln's "GETTYSBURG ADDRESS"-Questions about tone, etc...?

In his speech, he uses a TRICOLON, which is a division of an idea into 3 harmonious parts, usually of increasing power.

Also, he uses an ANTITHESIS, like living/dead.

Can anyone explain to me what those terms really mean and how I would write my own address keeping those terms in mind.
