a. did not believe slaves could be productive american citizens
b. owned slaves himself
c. did not want to lose the support of the slaveholding border states within the union.
d. did not want to support the policies of the radical republicans
e. promised during his 1860 campaign that he was against abolition

I know that a) is true, regardless of how unpopular a view of Lincoln that may be. The reference I use for that is the book "The Politically Incorrect Guide to The South And Why It Will Rise Again" by Clint Johnson; published by Regnery Publishing, Inc. in 2006. You can find in the Index at the back of the book numerous citings of the proof for your selection "a)" and many more directly related to Lincoln's strong dislike for the slaves and how he got roped into having to free them when he never wanted to, plus why he never wanted to support abolition. The book is in paperback and cost me only $19.95. God Bless you.
