Lighting for Photo Assignment?

I'm going a photo assignment with a film camera... Nikon N65, and I would like to know how to make good lighting. I'm using a sister as a model and I just wants to do face shots against a wall in my house. My mom has a couple of really bright lights that she uses for when she paints, and these lights are similar to the ones that are used in the photo studio at school. So how should I do this? Should I take them during the day? Should I turn off all the lights and just have these bright lights on? Or does anyone have any other different suggestions. Please help?
 
I assume you are shooting black and white for class, so color temperature will mean nothing. Day or night will probably make little difference because the ambient light will be weak inside. Try bouncing the light off a white wall or ceiling.
 
The best kind of light is natural light. Try taking the shot outside in the sun. Trust me. Lamps and indoor lights give off a yellow shadow,unless you have 100% white light bulbs. Hope that helps!
