Annie, the reason they would be saying this is so the new fish will not be stressed adjusting to a new enviroment, and it is helpful when they are in darkness or semi darkness, When I get new fish I always put Tin Foil under the light. They have the semi darkness but at same time I can keep a check on them. Best of luck
