I've got a 3" lift on my cherokee with 31" tires. I can hear and feel a "pop" when I turn the steering wheel, however, it only does this when I'm turning the wheel. For instance, It pops once and if I keep the wheel turned it wont make any more pops unless I turn the wheel. It makes the noise when I turn the wheel either way.
