Life is meaningless.

After hours of extensive research (In other words, I'm making this up as I go.) I have come to a conclusion about life. Well, not so much of a conclusion that can be said with one line.

But it is a wierd concept. When it's cut down to "life in a nutshell" this is what you get: You're born, you do some stuff like eating and sleeping, go to school, make some friends, possibly fall in love, go through a lot of pain and good feelings, you die. Something like that.

Now, lets look at an extended version of this. You're born, you grow up, you go through early years, go to school, make some friends that will be lost because you're still young, move on to higher (But still low) grades in school, make some friends (This portion usually includes an entrance of a "best friend" or a friend you will know for years to come), you eventually lose about half of these friends, you move on to junior high or middle school. You date (Either because you want to be cool, you want sex or something I don't know, or your intentions are actually good and you may be in love for real (Which I will also rant about later, so stay tuned!)), you (usually) break up, you may go through a "omfg this is painful" phase, you get over it, you date again, it fails again, repeat, you go to high school. More stuff happens including more possible friends and dating, blah blah blah, you either graduate or drop out. You possibly get a job, eventually get married (possibly), and then repeat (for the most part) untill death.

Sure, there are other things that could happen, but this is the average for the normal person. I would say.

So, what's my point? Life is repetetive and can be easily predicted. Most of the time each day is the same and its like "omfg omfg omfg I cant take it any more." Meh, for me at least, I'm sick of the same. Anyways, going into another topic:

Most people will have most of their days be the same. Some of these days however they will dread. People wont want those days to come. It's like "Omfg if tomorow comes I'm just going to die."
Well just think about this next time you have a bad day coming up: Time will get rid of it for you. Sure, you may endure some pain or something, but time will make this day leave. When something bad is going on, think about where you'll be tomorow at the same time. If it's something that effects a line of days, well, sucks to be you I guess. Hahaha, seriously, just think about how it will be after its gone.

Technicly the same goes for good days.

And it just happens every day untill the last day. Some people lead eventful lives, some people lead lives that are good to them, some people are miserable and some even commit suicide. And in the end what is it for? Some day the earth will end (It's wierd because that's not even proven for sure, but I'm sure some day - I'm not saying even in this life time, just some day) the earth will end. And then humans, well, our race of humans at least.

You know what? It's kinda wierd to think about this: Technicly, we created the thought, or theory of god and heaven and hell and such. And I mean, if our earth is destroyed everyones going somewhere, but why do we just clasify it for our human race alone? Just our planet. No one ever thought god created the universe. And I mean, why wouldn't there be other forms of life? I mean, we get the universe to ourselves? People believe this? Wow, that's pretty damn selfish.

Speaking of other forms of life in the universe, it's absurd to even believe there isn't. Let's look at this logically (Although all logic is illogical, which I will get to later), the universe is HUGE. I mean, well all know, it's HUGE. Now, what do we know is out there for sure? Nothing. Back to the god thing, let's think about this. There is supposedly one god, the thought of having more than one god would be blasphemous. Therefore, this god must rule the universe.

Now, I don't know about you, but if I rules something as vast as the universe itself, and I had the power to create life, I wouldn't make one planet have life and then just watch them for awhile, I would go nuts with types of life, with mind altering and physical altering. Maybe god is just creating many forms of life trying to make the perfect being? Think about it, we were manufactured for action. Our bodies are ideal for working (Aside from the fact that we feel pain), and getting around. Of course, even 10% of our brain power was a bit too much, and so I guess we over took this world, which explains why there are no more "bibical miracles" these days, I guess god just gave up on this world. Hell, it's a theory isn't it? And it makes sense.

But anyways, back to life in the universe... Now, I don't see why people obsess over finding other forms of life. I mean if you send a radio signal and it takes from 500 years to get to another planet with life, think about this. Wouldn't these "aliens" have to decipher, then send back a message? And then 500 years later we would get it? What if a message was just send back to us? We wont get it for 500 years, and even then, whats the use? I mean what would the message be? Something like "lolwtf you found us kthxbai." And who's to say any "aliens" would have the technology to pick up our message or send it back?

Also, people usually think of other forms of life (or aliens) as monsters or things with green skin and tenticals. Why? If there are other forms of life in the universe we are just aliens to them. There could be other forms of life very similar to us, but slightly different. There could be forms of life with the same bodies and physical properties as us, but with altered minds.

Well, since we're on the subject of the universe and such, let's talk about that. The universe, it's so big. Some people say it was once the size of a common marble, and that one 'day' it "exploded" and started to expand. And they say to this day it's still expanding. Now I ask you, if the universe is everything, and according to science there is no boundry of the universe, and it goes on forever, what is it expanding into? "Uni" means 'one', so shouldn't there be more?

Now back to our solar system, I have a question. What was the point of going to the moon? What's the point of spending billions on a probe that will go to mars? I mean, sure, going to the moon produced maybe a good movie, but what was the real point? Research? Why the hell do we research such things? I mean it's like "Omfg, we're researching the moon, but we also conclude that the world can be destroyed any day now!"

How about spending those billions on cures for diseases and stuff. Maybe try to help our earth, or at least use probes for something useful.

Now, since I've said all of this, doesn't it make your daily life seem kind of irrelevant and stupid? Doesn't it make you feel insignifigant? Well here I go, back to our earth, into daily life.

Now, let's talk about love shall we? What is love? This question has been asked for centuries. To put it in a nutshell, love is a good feeling, beyond good, that you feel when you think of your signifigant other. Love can't be defined, it's a feeling. I mean, you try to define "happy", or "sad". You can't put it into words what it is, but people know because they have felt it.

Of course, there is also false love. This can be directed by the fact that people are either desperate, or want something sexual for themselves. This is not only stupid, but can easily end in pain for the other person who thought the other meant well.

Some teenagers think they are actually in love when they are not. This false love is usually built off the fact that they proclxxx their love within a day or week.

Now, people have said "Ok, so now doesn't this apply to you as well?"
Perhaps. I can't say it doesn't, but I can say I don't believe it does. I love Ellie (And I believe this to be the real feeling), I really do. Now, off into rant again, and another point, most flaws in this come to the fact that if you asked the average couple in like high school if they could see themselves getting married, they really couldn't. Well, I could see myself marrying Ellie some day.

Ok ok ok, enough about love, time to get logical again, or should I say illogical. Think about this. All logic is illogical. I can prove it. My proof is that all logic was created by humans, thus, it's not actual logic, it is created logic. It is human logic. I mean, if I said 2+2=7 and I said it was in "Alex logic", I'm completely right, because it's not human logic. So, we can conclude that there must be some sort of universal logic that would prove all human logic wrong.

Therefore, all science must be wrong, because science is based off a foundation of human logic. Therefore, any scientific theory to prove god wrong must be wrong. I'm not saying this means I'm going to believe in god and such (Well, I do, as I've said), I'm just saying, science is just as likely of being right as religion. Ohh, look at that, now we don't need arguements between science vs religion. I just got rid of the need to.

Now, what does this all have to do with the main point of life? Well brace yourself, here comes the last part of my rant...

I've come to the conclusion that...

Nothing in life matters. It doesn't fucking matter. Time to go into more extensive explaining.

Everything we do is irrelevant to the universe, the universe is the frame of all life, and maybe not even. There could be much more, that we will never see. We are one segment in the rope of all things. What one person does today will not affect the universe. When this planet is gone, the universe will still live (Possibly). Without us. Without humans.

Love is useless, it was only created so that people would breed and thus create more humans, probably because before we corrupted the world, thats what god wanted. Love may be useless, but I still love Ellie, and I don't care if it doesn't affect the universe.

What I'm saying is that life may be useless when it comes to everything, but on earth it does matter. If you want it to. I want to be with Ellie forever, and it will affect me as a person on this earth, it wont effect this universe.

Live life, and enjoy life. Don't waste away your life trying to figure out the meaning of life, don't try to figure out whats in the universe, you'll never know, if we find out it doesn't even matter, everything will eventually come to a halt, so just enjoy it while it lasts.

Life is useless, but live it well.

long post...

your question about the moon is a simple one. we went their because it is our nature to do so. for all throughout man's history (not prehistory times) man has explored the far reaches of the world, and now in our era we seek to explore the far reaches of the solar system if possible. perhaps one day we will expand more. if we were created or it is just random, we exist as a curious race of beings. partially because that is just how we are and partially because of our need to leave a lasting mark. when you die do you want to be forgotten in 20 years? do you want to be just another tombstone in another cemetary in another suburban town in 21st century america? i would hope you want more than that in life.

we can't change the universe, but to go down in history or even to make a small impression that could possible survive throughout all time is something that all humans strive for, perhaps even all beings anywehre strive for this.

we wouldnt attempt contact with another planet in my opinion because it would take billions of years to get a reply as far as we know, assuming we even hit a planet that can take our message. we won't live long enough to see a reply from them, and so what if we do. we probably would have forgotten the language that we wrote the original one in and probably won't be able to reply to the new one.

why humans obsess over emotions and things of that sort: humans have something that all other creatures seam to lack, intelligence, and with intelligence a sense of time, and a sense of consciousness beyond what instinct dictates. a wolf is concerned with how he will eat and protecting his family, he lives int he now and constantly takes advantage of situations in the now. a human is capable of seeing down the road and taking advantages of situations at a later time. because of this we also can worry about things that have or will happen. although your post, and myn as well, both are trying to rationalize existence, understand something, explain the phenomonom of what we do, we are thinking of the past and future. not the now.

just imagine living life moment by moment, instead of day by day, or week by week, or month by month. your worries change significantly, your lifestyle changes, you change. a whole new set of problems arrises. before this post becomes as long as yours i will wrap it up:

when faced with the complexities of life, the challenging and infact impossible question: what is the point of our existence?, the internet, life in our time, and many more you must simply tell yourself "fuck it". honestly the earth is a considered a young planet and has been here quite a long time. in that time man has been here for but a blink of an eye, and you will be here what seams like no time. in the run of things you are unimportant, insignificant. there are few men who can survive time, and i doubt any will forever. so you must tell yourself "fuck it" because in the infinitely small amoutn of time you inhabit this planet there is almost nothing you can do to leave a mark, and the little shit known as life is as unimportant as your life was in another blink of "the" eye.

That was a really depressing post regarding how much life sucks, and how insignificant human existence is. Then you end it with
How does that work? If life is so useless and insignificant to you, why would you want anyone to live their lives well? If life is pointless and insignificant, what is the reason for us to "live life, and enjoy life?" If love is so pointless and was "created (I could play the religion game with you, but I won't) so that people would breed and thus create more humans" then why are you preaching about how you don't care and how much Ellie means to you.

You know what I think?

I think this thread is meaningless.
You do a lot of preaching about how meaningless everything is, and then you go into this "but I don't care because I don't believe in the 2 pages of writing that I wasted your time with, and I want to live with my lovely Ellie" shit at the end.

You could cut off the last three paragraphs of your thread, double post them as a reply, and neg rep yourself.
Stop cockpunching your own argument, and stop wasting my time.

I'm just saying there is no signifigant point, so people should be so crazy about the universe, the meaning of life, all of that stuff, they should just live out their life here, and enjoy it while it lasts. I'm saying that while all of this holds up to prove that we are insignifigant to the universe, that there is no real point, people should live their lives happily and enjoy it, I don't know how to explain it right. I have the explination in my head but I'm not sure how to type it out right, I hope this has helped explain it somewhat.

The meaning of life is life itself.

Life wants to continue life.
That's why we fuck.
And work to raise our offspring.

That's about it.
Have fun, and be happy ever after.

I'm going to keep my response simple. Life has the meaning you give it. It's as simple as that. If you let yourself get roped into a robotic life then it's your own fault, and yeah, life would be pointless. Do what you love to do while getting paid for it. Find that someone (whether it's Elly or someone else) who will bring you joy and do something to contribute to this world, and your life will have had meaning.

here's the moral of the story shit doesnt matter so why hte fuck are you going to spend what little time you have worrying about it.

I couldn't get through all of that at the moment, but there's plenty of meaning to be found in life if you look for it.

Find some spirituality.
Help someone who's life sucks more than yours does.
Make the world a better place for your kids or grandkids.
Entertain people to make their lives more enjoyable.
Find shared meaning with other people.
Try to think productively.

Yadda yadda yadda. Well I'm off to go stick my face in a fan.

Catch you ladies and germs later.

While I must admit that I didn't read ALL of your existential diarrhoea, you brought up some good points. Everyone thinks like this sometimes. The difference is, some people DO something about it, and some people just choose to piss and moan about it and it never changes.

Just like Trooper said:

"If you don't like what you got, why don't you change it / If your world is all screwed up, rearrange it/ Raise a little hell, Raise a little hell, Raise a little hell!"

So, if you're pissed off with life being repetitive and pointless, do something about it and STFU! No one is going to do it for you.

Cheers,

WTFN

i think like this a lot and the thing is, what the fuck can i do? nothing. in the short time im alive i can barely affect the world, and considering how long it has existed my extremely small amount of time here will mean nothing in the long run, unless i blow up the world. so im sitting here whining and moaning, but thinking because there is literally nothing that man can do. even our entire society as it is now, will in the end mean nothing. we are such a slim minority of the human race that has and will exist and will be thought of as such in a short time (not to us, but to the universe and the earth). so what is the point? what is the point of breathing if all you're doing is possibly proving to your maker that you are worthy of some paradise promised. as i said few men can survive time for a long time in our minds and none can survive time forever, or for a long time considering the earth's age. so usually i tell myself, or try to tell myself that it doesn't matter, but that "whining and moaning" won't help me either. i have to live my life and hopefulyl still have a conscious despite the fact that life could potentially be worthless now and afterward. stopping while short... sort of...

I found it a detailed and interesting, if meandering, post. I too have thought about much of that in great detail. I too have understood what the original poster was thinking. Unfortunately without spirituality, this universe is essentially meaningless.

I agree with what Waffles' post.

I've often thought the same things. Wondering if there actually was a point to it all.

I still say there's no point except to breed, raise children, watch your children raise children, die, etc etc untill the human race destroys itself.
