"Life@Hand" - What's the Scoop?

I've googled and looked a a thread where people are "begging" to be beta testers, the last one 11/22.

There is neither a valid response to the posts, or ANYTHING concrete on the website for development progress, trials, beta or anything else.

No links, no release date, no hints. Is this vaporware or what? If anyone has a clue, I'd be interested!

Thanks in advance for any "illumination."

Ref Life@Hand, I check their site daily, and on 11/22 Parker was talking about the down hill direction Palm has been going, and stated "We're definitely looking into developing for other platforms...." I would really hate to see this, because the program sounds interesting, and worth a try. It looks like they are ready for "cobalt", and were not pleased that the newest palm did not have it. I justed posted at their site also, and may be I will get an answer to your question. Russ

Life @ hand is in "internal" beta testing. They haven't released anything for testing as of yet. The original date of beta release was scheduled for De. 17th. Parker posted that it was delayed because they did want to release an inferior buggy version.

I'm not hoping too much for a "replacement" for Agendus or anything else but Parker isn't high on my list of being responsive as well as some other's that I know that frequent this forum.

I agree with you. I should have received a response of some type. There have been enough views of the post. Customer service is usually the first to go.

I think it's safe for all of us to assume it's "vaporware" at this point.

Unfortunate indeed. I was going to slam on that bad boy and hopefully replace (or come close to replacing) Agendus . . .

Found out yesterday that DB5 will CERTAINLY NOT do it for me, at least at this time.

I did find an app called LifeBalance; it ties in with Bonsai and DayNotez but has no icons . . . might give that a look too. It's more of a "coaching" thing than a strict organizer but it may have promise.

Also, A5 (freeware) seemed to come pretty close to Agendus though not as "sharp;" I believe like Datebk5 though, it puts a lot of garbage text in your notes section.

Huh?

Have I looked at that one? I remember Ks Datebook, A5 and some others . . . I'll google it and take a look. If it supports icons and/or MakeSpot . . . .

Thanks Man in the Moose!

OK here's the direct link to StandAlone/DateMan page:

http://standalone.com/palmos/dateman/

If anyone's interested. Yes, it supports icons! WooHoo!

Now we'll see how much junk THIS ONE puts in note fields . . . . .

OK, found it and downloaded. The text it leaves in notes is:

[-Other-]
Icn: 00031
[-End-]

This is not bad or too offensive in terms of corruption; it also APPENDS the Agendus ANICON# info - follows behind (below) it. So Agendus info stays on top, unlike DateBk5. Good. Attached is a zip (didn't know how to attach 3 small jpgs without posting 3 times, so rolled 'em up in a single zip which will save space here anyway).

They're screenshots of list and month views, with an IMPROVEMENT pulldown menu over Agendus - quick link to any month with a menu tap. Cool.

Problem is the icons are crowded against far left edge regardless of chosen font size. If that was brought to the right a little more, I'D PROBABLY TAKE THIS ONE AND USE IT. It has the same "blue day headers" that Agendus 5.35 used to have, which I really like. There's no "tomorrow, next Monday" stuff . . . just a banner day line. Good.

Colors are good and you can have two lines, control fonts, and show icons in month view. It does tie in with MakeSpot but I could live with that.

Next (please look at the photos) would be contact StandAlone and ask about the "icon crowding." With that fixed, and at 395k for the app and 95k for the link library, for 490k you're in business and have "most" of Agendus at a good price (think it's $19).

By the way - the icons are TINY in month view - which may mean it would take more than 4 per one-day square. That would rock, too.

You can change the size of the icon's in the month view - can't remember the icon that does it but it's across the top...they go from normal size to half size - I think it's a numerical icon across the top.

The program also has banners in the month view which was the appealing thing.

Can't use MakeSpot but it also ties in with Supernames and you can link to a contact.

I didn't like the way it handles categories but that's always an option.

EDIT: Pulled down the zip file...icon size is changed by the X2 and Paul - love your Due icon - I have created the exact same thing some time back...great minds think alike.

Actually have 3 variations of it and remember SEEING IT SOMEWHERE . . . probably stole yours!! I've edited mine down to the "killer 88 icon set" and can email you my "transferIconDB" which is a master set of 260 you might find use for - not the regular "nonsense" stuff but real useable ones. Just remember to store it on the CARD, not RAM, and then use Icon Manager to pick and choose. Also renumbered and rearranged them last night (remember what you told me about possible "icon corruption" a ways back . . . so checking against that from now on with a "clean set.) Was also concerned about Agendus adding 3 "non icon" data and occasionally shifting an icon# to 255 (ironic, hug!) if you allowed IconManager to "start at lowest number." That lowest number is "0" - you're better off with "1" or "100." After 255, icon numbers will CRASH Datebk5.

Attached for everyone else except Mooseman (he's seen this stuff!!) is the comparable views in Agendus, and the reason why it's so hard to "hate them for long." It really shines.

Some details were blanked out for privacy; this was a dummy set made before restoring my calendar/tasks db (which I did before loading Dateman).

DateMan is certainly 2nd choice, and a GREAT app for 400k and $19.
