license plates on bicycles?

my mom said she heard somewhere that to ride a bike around town you need license plates on it. and that its the law. is it true?

I license plate is to show that the vehicle is registered. A bicycle doesn't need to be registered with the state, so no, it doesn't need a license plate. But, you could go get a cute little one with your name on it
