Firstly; I will say I have no problem with his choice it's just one of his recent comments puzzles me.
Talking about his decision he has, also, made an interesting statement. He says he is still a proud Irishman. My problem, with this, is that the first line of the Oath of Allegiance that every new citizen must say and sign is as follows. (The pieces in bold are the ones that are the relevant bits.)

that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen;

Abjure means "Formally reject or disavow a formerly held belief, usually under pressure"

Surely; by claiming to still be an Irishman he is contradicting his oath.

The full oath can be found here... http://www.newcitizen.us/oath.html

Well I suppose he is talking about his ethnicity rather than nationality. In any case, no matter what happens, his UK citizenship can never be revoked as he was born there as was his parents and grand parents before him.

Ah yes, but Liam Neeson is rich and famous, therefore no one in America, not least the US government cares what he says or does.

If he was poor, and perhaps had darker skin tones, then someone in a black suit might possibly have a word...

I wonder why he has turned his back on ireland. Fair enough that his wife is buried there and he pretty much lives there, but so do many other british people who live in america.
