LG has revealed more details about the 8.3in tablet it plans to show off at this week's IFA trade show in Berlin.
The LG G Pad 8.3 tablet is the first 8in tablet to offer a Full HD display, the company said. It sports a 1,920 x 1,200 display with 273 pixels per inch. There's a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 1.3-megapixel front-facing device for video chat.
The G Pad runs a 1.7GHz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor and Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. There's 2GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, and a 4,600mAh battery.
LG said the G Pad builds on the recent release of the G2 smartphone.
"Complementing our G Series smartphones, the introduction of the LG G Pad 8.3 further strengthens LG's premium lineup consisting of our most cutting-edge devices," Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile, said. "Our G Pad is just another example of LG delivering devices with the unique selling points consumers around the world will appreciate."
To that end, the QPair app will allow for calls and messages received on a smartphone to show up on the LG Pad, from which users can also reply. The feature will work with non-LG smartphones, though a Jelly Bean-based gadget is recommended, LG said.
Similarly, the QMemo app will also sync notes between devices. For multi-tasking, QSlide will allow for up to three apps to run at once; slide unwanted apps off to the side with a three-finger swipe. The KnockON feature turns the device on and off when a user taps the display twice.
LG has touted a slim and sleek form factor that's comfortable to hold in one hand, despite its 8.3in frame. "The LG G Pad 8.3 squeezes in a powerful 4600mAh battery for long-lasting usage time but is still as light as a newspaper at just 338g," the company said.
LG said the G Pad will come in black or white and roll out in Europe, North America, Asia and elsewhere in the fourth quarter. Pricing was not discussed.
LG first teased its tablet earlier this week in a brief YouTube video. ITProPortal will be at IFA this week, so stay tuned for a hands-on look at the G Pad.
