The worst has happened - my 8600 was washed (cell phone pocket of painter shorts, yea, I know - she's sorry )

Anyway, I dug out my old vx7000, ran backup, dug through the forums & enabled free wap (nice not to have to edit any files) and I'm back - a little outdated, but back.

Soooo, I'm now in the market again - - I'm not up for newevery2 until August & since I just bought a Jeep as my new toy, I'll need to go used.

So, my question: whats the best lately? I was really happy with my 8600, had it since they came out....

What I like:

* Thin - if possible
* Large screen
* Camera
* Video - I use but can do without
* Speakerphone - is nice, but I became addicted to my bluetooth and now will really miss it
* Bluetooth
* removeable storage media - I liked & used this
* Music - not a priority
* FREE WAP - and ease of set-up for free wap
* bells & whistles - I like & use em' I'm a gadget guy

I briefly looked at the SCH-U740 Dual Flip being offered, but didn't hear too many good things, I'm an LG fan (verbally) I haven't read forums lately.

C'mon people, speak to me.

Any/All opinions welcomed.

9900 is always good (free wap, mms, and even vz navigator) --same w/ 8300 but not free mms.

I'm about to buy a new 8300 even though the phone was released about a year ago...

The 8700 is not (to my knowledge) hackable yet, but it does have the 2mp camera (though no autofocus like the razr maxx Ve). It'll be hackable by the middle of May though (my bet).

OK, let's see: There's a vx8350 or 8400 (idk what they'll call it), but it appears to be a thinner 8300 with the stereo speakers on the back and w/o the external stub antenna. I don't know when that's gonna come out though, FCC just got a CAD (computer aided drafting) model a few days ago (meaning that LG doesn't even have a prototype yet), so it might be after august before that comes out.

The Chocolate: Basically same featurewise as the 8600, but has the neat slider form factor...i don't know if you wanna put up with the annoying external controls though.

LG vx9400 (mobile TV) has the obvious advantage of receiving mobile tv... i don't know if oyu get that service in your area, but if you do, its a pretty cool phone. I just played one at a verizon store yesterday, and the sliding part is cool. There IS an extendable antenna, but it does go right into the phone (you can't tell it's there). it's a nice phone that i believe has a wap hack for it. Also, it has all of your other requirements.

If you are going to go used, you could always just buy another 8600...i'm sure there'll be some used ones out there, and the 8700 isn't that much of an upgrade visually. So, that's a pretty thorough roundup!

(Just a recommendation: I'd either go new now, or go new when your NE2 is ready...used electronics in general (especially phones) are not something that I would ever buy used...)

Anyway, good luck with your purchase.

You are the man!
THAT is the kinda response I'm lookin' for -

Now, I'll do a google/cnet roundup of your summary - I tried powering up the 8600, nada - however, it will power-up plugged in & will operate.... do ya think it was just the battery that fried?!?!?!
I took a leap & ordered a replacement battery (ebay 2.95 + 6.00 shipping) ; hey - - whada I got to lose, right?!

Again, thanx for the through reccomendations - you're on target bud!!
