LG chocolate touch 3g data?

I wanted to switch my samsung alias 2 to the LG chocolate touch my friend isn't using anymore. I was wondering if after I switched through verizon, would I need to pay for a data plan since I heard most of the 3g phones need it now?

And also, if i switched, I just call verizon to activate the other phone right?

You will be required to get the $10/month data plan. You can just call Verzion and get the phone activated.
