oh thats great news! how long have you been taking lexapro with?
i think im going to start today :)

Unfortunately, I fall into the not so lucky group of people. I was on 20mg of Lexapro and actually just switched to Prozac.
I definitely gained weight ... and a LOT of it.
Don't get me wrong, it did really help with my anxiety, but it's hard not to be anxious when you can't lose weight and just gain it!

Hope your experience is better than mine!
Plus, if you only think about the anxiety relief, then it's a pretty good pill.
Hopefully Prozac will be better for me!

My doctor has perscribed me with lexapro for my panic disorder/anxiety yesterday but ive been researching it on the net and supposidly it has DREADFULL side effects :( -weight gain is my biggest fear when i take these meRAB! im just wondering those of you who are on lexapro, have you gained much weight? can it be prevented by exercise/healthy diet or is it just unavoidable??
also is there any long term medication out there that doesnt cause weight gain?
im so worried about this side effect as i have just lost 1 stone and dont wanna pile it all on again!:(

thanks a lot for youe help :) xox

I am on lexapro and have not gained a pound and its been almost 4 weeks now. I have actually lost more weight since going on it. Not sure if thats because it hasnt fully kicked in for me yet and my anxiety is still causing the weight loss or if its the anxiety mixed with another health problem. All I know is, I can take any weight gain I can get! I should weigh at least 120 but right now I am at about 105.

I started in July 2008, stopped for 3 weeks in August to try wellbutrin (blah) and switched back to Lexapro. Just started taking 20mg, so we will see what that does.

Tina,

I took 10mg Lexapro once a day for about 5 months. I did not gain weight. However, it is important to note I have never had a problem with weight. It worked well at leveling me off while I worked with a therapist to get to the root of my anxiety and reshape my perception of life so that now I am drug and anxiety free.

I hope this helps.
David

I guess I should have mentioned that I was on Lexapro for about 2 yrs before I switched. But I always had weight problems with it.:(

I have very good results from lexapro for several years. I have not experienced weight gain, and I am free of anxiety. Listed potential side-effects affect some small percentage of people taking them, so many others take them with little, or no side effects. In my experience, the benefits far outweigh the possible weight gain. I found myself more active and enjoying myself much more, which has improved my overall health immensly.

I take 10 mg of lexapro and have actually lost 16 pounRAB. I seem to still be losing too. I don't crave carbs like I used to and basically I don't use food as a crutch. I was very worried too about gaining weight. Hopefully I will stay lucky in this dept. Best of luck to you!:)
