I am having a discogram and the surgeon told me if it comes back positive on the L4 disc I will need a level 2 fusion, can anyone explain this and what the recovery time is and things I should be concerned with. This is my second opinion from surgeons both saying the same thing. I am very nervous.Already had back surgery 6 years ago to replace L5. The surgery and recovery was not bad.

What was your original surgery? Was it a fusion or just a microdiscectomy?
I believe you mean a 2 level fusion. Not exactly an easy or pain free surgery.

thanks for replying
The 1st surgery I had was a L5 Disc replacement. And yes they want to do a 2 level fusion. When I had a spine CT with the dye injection was very painful especially down my legs. The pressure was very painful. I have had a discogram done with my first surgery and was the worst pain ever, so I know what that will be like. SounRAB as if they are going to fuse L4 to the replaced disc and the one above it. They said I would be in the hospital 3-5 days and home. I am havinf this done about 9 hrs from home because that is where the surgeon that did my first surgery is at now.
