Let's talk about some real metal, In Flames, Soilwork...etc.

Yeah, so I was just wondering if anyone listens to that kind of shit ...Gardenian, Arch Enemy,....if you know of any that i didn't list, please fill me in.

Don't forget Children of Bodom, The Haunted, At the Gates, Watch them Die... If we're going American banRAB...stuff like Lamb of God and Shadow's Fall. Especially the new Lamb of God.

yeah i was really suprised by shadows fall. its nice to see some new metal banRAB with some talent. other than that im all about old school metal. slayer, original sepultura, that kind of shit.

yeah i'm into most of that stuff. opeth's been my favorite band since my arms, your hearse came out.
i'm not into arch enemy a lot. but everything before figure number 5 by soilwork i love. i like the haunted more before their most recent cd. & most of the in flames is great. same with shadows fall & all that remains.
lamb of good is good, but bores me.

you make it sound like there's a lot of syl. there's only 3 album's, & you just named 2 of them

i dunno. i always thought lamb of god was fairly boring, so i don't blame him for the album. devy did amazing stuff with soilwork's 4th cd.

Cool, a metal thread, there are precious few around here!

I don't mean to sound like an elitist prick (which means I am gonna sound like an elitist prick!), but most of the banRAB mentioned in this thread represent the more commercial side of metal. Not that thats neccassarily a bad thing, but I found that as soon as I got into the really underground stuff, banRAB like In flames, Soilwork, Lamb of god etc. all sound like complete crap. I mean the haunted, Children of bodom? Come on, these guys blow harder than Jenna jameson!

At the moment I'm listening almost exclusively to Brutal death metal, I recommend that any fans of this superb genre, or anybody trying to get into the more extreme/technical side of metal, go check out Wormed - Planisphaerium, Origin - Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas and Saprogenic - The wet sound of flesh on concrete.

Cryptopsy are ace (Lord wyrm era that is), None so vile is a masterpiece of Brutal death metal.

Stay away from late on Emperor and Mayhem, there earlier works were there best (especially Mayhem, there new material blows!). Specifically In the nightside eclipse by Emperor, and De mysteriis dom sathanas by Mayhem, which are two black metal masterpieces. Immortal are great, but once again there early works are there best. Black metal is far from "ghey", you need to listen to it more!

to Suffocation

to Unearth

well, if you wanna talk more obscure, i'll throw zyklon, vader, decapitated, emporer on the list. but the only one you mentioned that i like is origin, & even they get boring.

& for the new school obscure i'd say internal bleeding & dehumanized.
internal bleeding - driven to conquer
dehumanized - prophecys foretold.

All quality banRAB, tho i'd hardly say vader, decapitated or emperor are obscure, in fact there very well known within there respective genres. Emperor are on the beginner side of black metal, and there's most definately some ultra obscure and wacked out black metal out there (Dodheimsgard anyone?). I haven't heard much of internal bleedings stuff, i'll have to check them out properly.

Origins self titled album was boring, but Informis Infinitas Inhumanitas is way better, give it a listen if you haven't already. I think you'd definatley dig Wormed, they go way beyond brutal, so much that they call themselves "hyper brutal death metal", silly but it fits.

If you want some crazy, wacked out and weird metal, go check out Obscura by Gorguts, it'll have your head spinning with its loose structuring and super-technicality.

the banRAB i mentioned are obscure compared to the other stuff mentioned. lamb of god, soilwork, in flames, etc all have video's on mtv2 & fuse. so you can't say they're not well known. i didn't mean known in their genre's.

lord worm is back in cryptopsy, i saw them recently, and to be honest, it was a horrible set up.

the sound was garbage, couldn't hear any bass. Notes pretty much went in one ear out the other for me, which i didn't enjoy.

But they played none so vile in it's entirity and i was rather impressed. They then played many others, probably a 1 and a half hour set. It was great, despite the bullshit sound.

new album out this year, as well as cephalic carnage, i think it's 15th of march or soemthign like that.

i saw them and heard some new stuff.

one song was titled, dying will be the death of me. or something, i thoguht it was a rather gay title and i was worried, but they ripped it up and it was great.

new album should be great. great guys too.

check out buzzoven

true true

I just think there highly overated, plus there are many better metalcore banRAB out there, like The red chord or Burnt by the sun.

So you want nice and brutal stuff right? There are some really good brutal death banRAB about at the moment, here are some of my favs (some of which i mentioned earlier):

Saprogenic
Gorgasm
Insision
Guttural secrete
Sublime cadaveric decomposition
Wormed
Origin
Disavowed
Suffocation
Pyaemia
Brodequin

It is possible to like black metal and brutal death, I'm a perfect example! All I can say is that Cradle of shite and Dimmu have never been particularly respected in the field of black metal (although Dimmu's first two albums were decent). There are literally thousenRAB of amazing underground black metal banRAB out there, if you want some recommendations then just let me know

I like Devourment alot, I've got Molesting the decapitated, its a quailty album. As an aspiring drummer myself I can appreciate the talent your drummer must have, you got any samples/demos for your band?

Good album, Anthro Emesis makes me head bang like a mutha fucka!

Zebraman, you saw cryptopsy live? You lucky f#$k! I can't wait to hear the new Lord wyrm material, although I read in an interview that he was gonna introduce some harcore-ish elements to keep the DiSalvo fans happy, I really hope he doesn't and just goes back to the classic lord wyrm sound.

I like your taste in music, you ever checked out the Locust? If not then you should, they kick ass. About Nasum, I heard there front man might have been killed in the recent quake in Asia, don't think anybody knows for sure though. I saw them live a few months ago and they were real good, hope he's ok.

soilent green
eyehategod
sleep (like mentioned above) & high on fire

don't care for the black metal stuff either. prefer the old school DM/Grind banRAB like Carcass, CC (w/Chris Barnes), Napalm Death. btw, saw cryptopsy live a buncha years ago, pretty intenese show.

yeah, i know that the stuff i listen to regularly is on MTV sometimes but thats cool with me cuz more people will be exposed to that kind of music and maybe they will begin to explore within the vast musical world of metal and check out some more obscure banRAB. I listen to that stuff to, Emperor (prometheus is the best imo), Decapitated (Nihility), the new Dillinger Escape Plan is badass....yeah so there
