Let The Right One In

ahh good man thanks for reminding me about this i really want to see it, may i also recommend a film called the chaser (korean) i watched it yesterday and it was brilliant

Didn't realise they'd filmed this, read the book, it's very dark, with some very heavy themes and really upsetting place, liked it a lot though, not entirely sure I can handle the film if it's true to the book though.

One of the better films of 2008 for me.

Sweet, bleak, sad and with some jaw-dropping moments.

I don't think some of the really dark things are covered.

For example..

Eli's gender is only briefly touched on in the film, once by their admission that they are not a girl and the second by showing a very fleeting glance at Eli's pubic area to show horrific scars.

what a BRILLIANT film - not particulary moving i thought and quite 'cold', but still amazing

i read an interview with the director and he said they did actually drop a couple of subplots

one clearing up the older guy's (sorry can't remember his name) relationship with eli - in the novel he is explicitly a paedophile whereas in the film you are given the impression he has been in love with her since he was a child

also in answer to what they show
there is a very brief shot of her scarred pubic region which was probably the most disturbing thing in the film, it really made everyone jolt

I watched this last night with the wife and i was very underwhelmed, it was really slow and quite dull and depressing for the most part.

It was well shot and quite well acted by the 2 main children but its quite a forgettable movie. Also

I thought that old man that killed for her was her father, i saw a scar under her armpit i thought not in her pubic region? am i wrong

Judging by the book

No, he definately isn't, in the book he's clearly a paedophile, there's references to previous sexual relationships with children, I'm presuming it's the same in the film, although it appears to be slightly glossed over

just read too
that eli was actually born a boy and castrated when he was 12 - hence the scars. they shot a scene explaining this but then decided to leave it out

AHHH right, that explains a lot

when she says to oskar would you still like me if i wasnt a girl

how did she decapitate and sever those guys heaRAB and arms at the pool at the end, eli must have had a sword or something but i couldnt see one

The castration was carried out years previously (probably a couple of hundred years), by whoever was head of the Village he'd grown up in (can't remember if it was a Lord, Prince etc, but along those lines), I think Eli became a vampire at the same time. The old man was just a tool Eli used to obtain fresh blood - things might be slightly different in the film BTW - also may be slightly hazy, it's a while since I read the book
