Lengthy SMS/MMS threads slow

Just an observation. I have a SMS/MMS thread with my girlfriend that is > 500 messages. There is a combination of regular SMS messages with a few MMS messages. I've noticed when trying to access this thread that the phone is slow to respond and I often get a message saying "Activity Message (in application Messaging) is not responding." This even happens after a fresh reboot and does not happen with small message threads.

If the messages are stored in a sqlite database (or something equivalent) they should work on a method to optimize access to large threaded messages so we don't have to delete them. Maybe archive older messages to a different database/table and put a pointer to these messages in the primary database/table when you need to access the older messages? Just a thought.

Anyone else experiencing the same or did I just make a huge mistake by duplicating a thread?

I'm trying to delete all threads now and the phone is just sitting there on the "All threads will be deleted." message with the OK button highlighted. Argh.

I have a pretty good sense of humor but I like being able to keep my messages for awhile. My WM phone had years worth of messages on it without any issues so I hope Android will soon be able to do the same. The threads finally did delete after telling my phone to "wait" for the application about 6 times.

It's all good.... the way current technology is evolving on mobile phones, we will have complicated enterprise features on our phones like uh... maybe disk de-duplication or something good? :-P

here i believe is a temp fix for the slowness and jerkiness in the stock sms application. hope it helps.
i haven't tried it personally since i don't sms very much. less than 300 a month i'd say :/

do post and let know how it is, if any of you checks it out eh..

Hmm, good find. I think I'll hold off on this until January because supposedly the SMS slowness is resolved in cupcake.

i dunno i have over 16,000 sms's saved on my tmo Dash.. and no slowness their... if this doesnt get fixed with cupcake im getting rid of my G1. What the point of a keyboard when it takes 10 seconds to load the sms

sorry to bump an old thread here but i've been having this problem lately but i just ignored it. ignored it to the point where it force closes while trying to delete the threads. i just used mybackup to back it all up in hopes of it also removing, however that didn't happen. anyone have any suggestions to what i should do to delete these? it'd be helpful seeing as i'm having quite the hard time messaging anyone. :-/

thanks in advance.
