What does your liquid diet consist of? I am glad it is making you feel better.

Sorry for the lack of answers - it is SO frustrating...

I am doing ensure, all flavors and lots of liquiRAB. I've dropped about 6 pounRAB in only a few days which kinda sucks (I workout alot so I burn lots of calories) I hope to keep it up a few more weeks and to slowly start adding other fooRAB back into my diet. I think this will help me figure out if it sinus infections or LPR causing the excessive mucus and sinus congestion. My minimal weight is 120 if I drop lower than that I plan to start adding fooRAB sooner. Right now I've had kiwi, grapes, lots of yogurt and ensure and I feel great. The congestion and excessive mucus in my throat has felt great, even the bad breath caused by the congestion seems to be getting beter.

Hi,

I was wondering when you would find out about your test results on the gastric emptying. Are you to see or call your Dr. today? Hope you're feeling better and get some right answers. My LPR has been sooo bad last few days with constant PND, mucus, the whole bit. Ugh. Makes me wonder why I even spend all the money on Nexium twice a day as I can't say it makes much difference. Might even be the reason for the D. Problem is if I stop I get heartburn so bad, which I never even had in the first place. Let us hear from you when you find out about your test. Does this mean they are ruling out the other thing they thought? Achalasia or whatever.

legaleagle,

That's a bummer. I was sure hoping you would get some answers. I understand where you're at but you may need to go ahead with the test to at least rule out things. I'm glad to see you're able to work out! I can't do that much anymore or I start coughing so bad. Since we've built a pool, I can swim so that's been good for me, but I used to work out at Curves every day. Keep us posted and glad you're feeling better at least.

Char,

Thanks for asking, but no nothing at all. I called earlier today and she said they'd have them either late this evening or tomorrow morning. I'd love to hear whether it yay or nay. I am pretty even split as to what I think its either gastric emptying, achalasia or the search continues.

I have the barium swallow scheduled for Wednesday. I'd both come back normal then its' off to manometry testing. I was thinking last night at least half of my pay check goes to prescriptions, pharmacy items, co-pays or specialized tests. I went to school forever and I was certain that after law school I'd finally have $ but for the past year and a half I've spent most of my money on trying to be normal again. Just imagine how great life would be if I could finally know what I have:)...

I hope you feel better; what do you think is causing it? Do you have GERD or LPR?

Hi Legal,

I hope you get your test results SOON and that are able to help you feel LOTS better.

That is one of things that frustrates me so - you read here that so many people have test after test - and whether they find a problem or not - the treatment is almost always the same - PPI's, diet/life style modification. So if you are doing those anyway and not feeling better - what hope is there? I mean the surgical options are not a gurantee of help - and many times they do not help or do not last?

I mean I have read here people having every test - and the Dr. saying well it looks like you have Relflux - or looks like you have LPR and then treating them as above?

Why pay all that money and put yourself through all those tests? I guess for peace of mind making sure it is nothing worse. But at times this is all very discouraging for me.

Anyway - I truly hope in your case they find the cause and FIX YOU!

The most frsutrating part for me is I am unsure what to focus my attention on. I don't know whether I have LPR or chronic sinusitis. I have taken the acid reflux meRAB religously on and off for two years but the bad taste and bad breath and burning thraot persists. I've had two pH tests but the results came back normal for each. I've had four EGD's done and all they find is excessive mucus and some inflammation-nothing that says definately that I have acid reflux at all.

I have chronic congestion and PND as well which also could cause the bad breath, sore thraot, and burning thraot as well. I've been taking sinus meRAB for the past two weeks and doing nasal rinsing but the smell from the back of my thraot is still pretty offensive. I don't know what to do.
To further add to my frustration, most of the people I talk with with LPR don't experience bad breath so that leaRAB me back to chronic sinusitis. But, with all the OTC meRAB, and decongestants, and nasal rinsing I should see an improvement by now but I don't. I skipped the barium swallow because I didn't feel it would give me an answer the last one didn't. I've been dealing with this fro two years now all by myself and alone and I've done everything doctors have asked of me but I am not better.

I agree with both of you. At one time when divorced, which is when my symptoms started via stress, I considered filing bakruptcy because I thought I was going to die anyway! As you well know, how bodies and systems are all different but I think what started all this GERD stuff is our diet and lifestyle along with stress. Some can handle it better than others. The reason for LPR makes sense but "how" the acid or whatever gets that high is the question. I don't even have a hernia so no reason for me to get symptoms from that. I think it can do real damage to you after so long and I worry about that. It's so frustrating to never know if I'm going to wake up feeling good or what. Sometimes when I do go to bed at night feeling fine and wake up feeling sick, I wonder "what the hell happened?"

The only thing I know to do is keep on taking the test, go from spec to spec, take one med after another. I don't find that changing my diet helps much and how can we not be stressed feeling like this? I don't see how people that work with the public make it. I'm afraid when I lose this job (my boss is 81!) that I won't be able to get another if I continue with these annoying symptoms and being sick half the time.

Looking forward to hearing your test results as I would be very happy for you (or anyone) to find out what is really going on and if there's hope that we can get well.

I got my test results back today and it was negative for irregular gastric emptying. I guess I should be happy but I am not. I honestly thought this was the answer. I have a barium swallow test tomorrow but I think I should cancel it. I really don't think I'll ever figure this out and besides since I've been on the liquid diet I've felt better.

I'm right with ya. I feel sometimes I'm barking up the wrong tree with the LPR since I don't have sore throat anymore but I do cough up "something" after eating and have had EVERY ENT spec that it looks like a little allergy but mostly reflux. On the other hand, allergy meRAB don't help other than Flonase a little with the PND and allergy spec took me off shots. I am thankful that my voice is back after 10 yrs. I know you've probably gone the dental route and I'm sure you're doing the flossing, brush your tongue thing.....I just worry for you since you can't stay on liquiRAB forever. I'm sure you've searched other things causing the bad breath problem....I guess if you're feeling good now, just enjoy it! I've got a bladder infect and taking antibiotics, which causes me to have D ten times worse! Have a good one.
