Ok, so I work in a gas station/carryout on OSU campus in Columbus, Ohio. Anyway... among the employees we have a huge argument all the time about whether this rule is actually a law or simply a store policy. I asked an officer once and he said that it was not a law as far as he knew....he actually seemed to think it was ridiculous.... though he was also happy that we do it and encouraged me to continue.
When selling alcohol....by LAW..... do you have to ID everyone in the group even if only one of them is buying the beer. I do not mean if they are exchanging money or any sort of 2 party sale. But if two guys come up to the counter and one has beer and the other is buying snickers, in two seperate transactions....do I really have to ID both of them?! That's just plain stupid.....how could that possibly be a law? My manager and his little minion are constantly getting on us for not ID'ing everyone.... they even go so far as to watch who the people come in the store with and ask them to bring their friend up and show ID if the friend they came in with is still browsing the store. I even saw them refuse sale once to a 50 year old man because his son who was 20, was with him....and told the very angry customer...ITS THE LAW.
Somebody verify that it is not my responsability to pester every person in the store who speaks to the alcohol buyer!
