Legal Issues with a Mazda RX8 Extended Engine Warranty?

I have a 2004 Mazda RX8 with 66000 Miles on it. I purchased it 45 days ago. It has an 8 year - 100,000 mile warranty on the engine. Recently it was taken into the dealership, and they told me it needed a new engine. They told me it was covered under warranty, however I needed to provide ALL maintenance records for past owners, proving that the oil changes had been done regularly and on time.

I was able to call Mazda headquarters and get records for oil changes from past owners for all but a 9000 mile stretch (54000 - 63000). I have records that shows the vehicle has had engine issues since about 15000 miles and was repeatedly serviced for it. I also was told by the dealer that Mazda has had alot of issues and problems with the 2004, 2005 and 2007 engine.

Because the lapse in proof of oil changes from 54000 - 63000 miles, Mazda is not willing to warranty the vehicle and is charging me about $5300.00.

My question is, if I take them to court without a lawyer, in Virginia, do I have a chance at beating them? Do I even have a chance at beating them with a lawyer, or is this technically legal business practices?
