Legal Advise 1987 Consumer Protection Act and Mountain bikes?

Right, two to three months ago i purchased two mountain bikes from Halfords. Also, they were both under warranty for 12 months. One of the bikes is a potential deathtrap because of of the rear sprockets is slipping at random times and the gear cable's outer tubing has eaten itself away when the gears are being changed. The other bike also has a critical fault. While i was changing gears the dralia( I think its called, the thing that moves to switch gears up and down) twisted and bent the metal. Halford said to bring the bikes in and they will asses the damage. After being very rude and ignorant they offered to repair the bikes for 42.50, which i think is utter bulls*it . What are my legal conditions/options?
