Legacy Super 9 - Going HD, should I change?

Hi everyone,

I currently have an older Super 9 package which I'm paying $59.99 for (says on my bill a savings of $25.55 per month). Plus I pay $1 for the US Networks.

I have been with BEV for about 10 years straight. Basicly I'm looking at switching to HD as I know how an HDTV set. I am wondering if what I'm getting for TV channels right now is a good deal or should I be looking at a more current package for a bit more or less $$? I know the HD channels will be an addition $10 but that's about all I know.. Actually I just checked out the all in one packages and it appears I'm getting 9 themes for only $59.99 whereas the new packages you only get around 5 or 6 for more $$? Unless I'm missing something.

Any comments would really be appreciated...
 
If you're changing your programming to include HD, they are probably going to force you to take one of the current packages. As with all things new, you get less for more$. If you want HD, I believe you will end up having to get rid of the legacy programming package--but you should call in to BEV to see what their position is on this.
 
Depending on the agent you speak to you might and might not be able to add the HD pack to your current Legacy package

Why? Last summer we were told to no longer make changes keeping Legacy, that has soon as client wants to modify programming he would need to go to current Genesis packages. After that, since they decided to increase the cost of the packages, they decided to permit changes keeping Legacy. The Legacy programming choice are on a seperate section in the system were we could add it and "newbees" don't about that section

If you keep your Legacy packages you also won't receive all the HD channels available... You won't get A&E, Treasure, Rush and Equator... I belive, but not sure on that one, that you won't get HD net.

If you want I can send you a sheet giving you all the Legacy packages and where have the channels been moved to on Genesis package. I could also e-mail you a Legacy programming sheet so that you see what you will get keping your actual package
 
It is possible to break even in certain cases. It means taking 5 packages under the new system instead of 7 under the old (US nets is now included in basics so it is really a loss of one package.) That works for some people. In my case, programming cost went up and I ended up with fewer channels. One lost channel we like to watch (but it's not worth an extra $5/mo) and the US news channels were lost as well. We also gained several channels we wanted (including one I don't want to support for political reasons but have no choice due to bundling.) The cost for HD went up, the cost for TMN went up and we lost channels overall. The end result was the cancellation of the TMN package as well. I am still with EV due to a retention offer and owning two 9200s but I can probably do better with Rogers over the next 2 years.
 
Contract if you rent and another $10 to $20 month for rental , $300 to $600 for rec if you buy, install, loss of grandfathered package, new rec coming out soon todays rec wont get all tomorrows channels.For you a 10% discount on purchase of new rec for expressvus 10 year anniversary. Right now is not a good time unless you want to go to another provider.
 
no, in my comparison I havn't included my various retention credits...I tried as best I could do an "apples to apples" comparison.

If I had stuck with my old package - Canada's Digital Advantage - I would have paid $51.99 per month before taxes, broken down as follows:

$48.99 for Canada's Digital Advantage
$1.00 for US Networks
$5.99 System Charge
$4.99 Additional Receiver Fee
MINUS $8.98 Bundle Credit

The equivalent package I will drop down to once my promotion credits expire in six months will be the "Build your own" with five theme packs with a retail price of $43.02 per month before taxes - A SAVINGS OF $8.97! - broken down as follows:

$31 Build your own
$20 for five theme packs (News & Learn 1; Sports 1; Family 1; Lifestyle 1; Variety 1)
$1 for US networks west feed
MINUS $8.98 Bundle credit

...now, the only catch is, although BEV has said I will keep the bundle credit, in a worst-case, I could sign up for the new Bell bundle, which would save me $5 per month (I also have home phone, long distance and internet with Bell)...my savings under the new packaging would drop to $4.99 per month.

As far as the key question - what channels will I gain lose - here's the results:

...in my case, there's actually a savings by moving to the new packages, when comparing apples to apples - in reality, my bill will be more because I'm also adding HDTV ($10/month), and thinking about a sixth theme package. For me, the channels gained outweigh the channels lost, and allow me the flexibility to adjust my programming.
 
Sorry you would only get the 10% off if you purchased the $600 HDPVR. That the one that will be replaced shortly. Wait till Christmas and or the new rec
 
Here is an idea of the involved cost:

Rental:100$ rental certificate + 10$/month for the 6100 or 20$/month for the 9200. The installation will be free if you currently don't have Nimiq 2 programming (second eye). You will get 6 months of the HD programming
(usually 10$/month) free of charge. The rental certificate will be credited on the bill following the activation or whithin 3-6 week

Purchase:300$ for the 6100 or 600$ for the 9200 -10% discount (10th anniversary rebate for a limited period). The installation will also be free if you currently do not have Nimiq 2 programming. There is a limited warranty of 1 year. After that period we suggest you get Dish Care, if you are not in BC for 6$/month. When you purchase you are not eligible for the 6 months of HD programming

As mentionned previously new HD PVR receivers will be out shortly...for that reason I strongly recommend going on with a rental (they will require a 1 year contract), so that you could change the receiver when they are out
 
I have looked at changing several times in the past as I have a legacy package as well.

Just get a CSR online and give them the list of channels you currently get and ASK how much under the new programming it will cost you monthly.

I think you will keep your legacy!!!!

From $52 down to $47 you are the poster child for the new Package.

Not necessarly... Since they increased the cost of the Genesis package and considering the system charges and the multiple receiver fees for lots of clients it is now about the same price to go to Genesis package

Best way to have a look at it would probably be by having the sheet I use to the migration at work. It list all the channels included in the Lgacy themes, and on which theme they have been moved to. With that sheet, and the current programming guide that you could find on line you make sure you don't miss out any of your favorite channels.

Lots of mistakes happen when a migration is done... Themes are designed differently and some channels that used to be together are no longer together, while some that were not together before are now together.

For example, in the theme pack Learning most channels are now in News 1. Most agents will select News 1 to replace Learning. Unfortunatly, if client likes Animal Planet he won't see that channels anymore...
 
I faced this exact question one month ago. I upgraded to the 9200, and at first kept my legacy package (in my case, Canada's Digital Advantage). They did add HD, but I had a terrible problem with a number of CSR's, each telling me a different story of which channels I should and should not get.

When my 9200 was first activated, I received many HD channels, but was told that due to my "legacy" package, I could not receive HDNET, Rush, Treasure, A&EHD or TSNHD! And, in a twist that made no sense to me, I DID receive RaptorsTVHD, even though I did not subscribe to nor receive the SD version!

The deal breaker for me was not being able to receive TSN-HD. After putting up with this for two weeks, and also having decided I wanted to make further changes, last week I switched to the new packaging.

For now, I'm on the HD extra package plus US networks - it's $103 per month before credits, not including taxes. After credits, I expect to be paying $5/month more than before. The plus is I'm getting to pick 6 theme packs, while my old package was essentially the equivalent of 5 theme packs.

So much of this depends on what deal you strike with them as far as programming and equipment credits. Certainly being a long time customer, having options with well known promotions in your area (e.g. Rogers), and being prepared to walk away from BEV if necessary will yield you a better retention package of credits.
 
YOU may say "not necessarily" but both "The Works" & "Super 9" packages (to get ALL the channels in thos packages) will cost SUBSTANTIALLY MORE under a new package just because of the changes in the themes.

Price it out... each AND EVERY time I call the CSR tries to get me to change. I get them to build me a sub with ALL the channels I currently get and it ALWAYS costs more than $20 extra EVEN with all the BS fees Bev charges. At $20 A MONTH that is $240 a YEAR PLUS TAXES!!!!
 
You could probably save more by thinking outside the (Bell) box. For example I get:
1. Long distance - $0.00/mo + $0.06min to NA.
2. Internet - $29.99/mo. (5 Mb DSL, 100 GB cap.)
3. Cell phone - $10.00/mo (Pay as you go, light use.)
4. Land phone - standard Bell - 2 features.
5. TV - standard EV.

That's about a $40/mo saving for me. No bundles offer that. Plus I'm free to switch services without impacting the price of the others.
 
I never said it was cheaper for everybody...

The previous person said that it was more expensive, and I only said not neccesarly, when you caculate your monthly rate + system charge + multiple receiver fee it comes, in many instance cheaper. I never said in all case
 
I just went to Bell's site and did a build your own combo. Price to get the same channels (less a few that are cum se cum sa). Price = $98/mth which is $34/mth MORE than I pay now $98 PLUS taxes vs. $66 INCLUDING taxes.

As I said in previous posts it is fun to have a CSR put together the package for me and then listen to them flounder telling me that I SAVE money when I pay an additional $300/year BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE TO PAY THE EXTRA FEES!!! So I would "save" the $5.99 system charge & the $2.99 additional receiver fee per month while paying an additional $34/month!!!

Only one CSR (who said she had the same legacy bundle) said... "Ummmm...NEVER MIND!!!"

That's what happens when you are one of the people who signed up to Bell when you got a SINGLE LNB witha SINGLE coax connector!! It was an extra $50 to "upgrade" to a LNB with two coax connectors back then (1998).

I did a comparison between the two Legacy packages I know people have (The Works & Super 7). To go from The Works to current programming the NET difference is more that $300/year and from the Super Seven is more than $200. Yes, you get some additional channels (that you may or may not want), but to get the SAME channels you pay through the nose.

That is why Bell hates those that will not change!! If they didn't want us on these packages they should never have offered the package with the "...this package is good for as long as you are a Bell customer." Bell just wants the additional profits. By the way the last CSR offered me three PPV movie credits if I would change to current programming...that certainly covers the $300/year extra that it would cost me!!!!! Maybe a pair of FREE new MPEG4 HDPVRs when they come out woul make me consider changing....NOT!!!

I also had a Super 9 package back in April when I added HD. Called 3 times to confirm that I wouldn't have to change my current package just to add HD. As soon as the 9200 unit was installed and I called to activate my HD programming....big surprise....I would have to upgrade my programming to a Genesis package.

The supervisor I spoke to insisted that it would be cheaper for me but after 10 minutes of doing the math he found it was going to cost me $17 more per month....on top of the $20 rental of the unit and the $10 HD package (free for 6 months).

In the end I wound up getting a 1 year credit for the difference because I was misinformed by 3 different reps prior to the installation.

As much as I love the HD, it was a HUGE hassle dealing with BEV.
