Legacy programming price increase - Effective April 30th

rental contracts only guarantee your hardware pricing during the duration of the contract...your programming is still subject to change...the good news is, at the end of your two year contract, you can upgrade to an HD receiver and still keep your standard receiver rental rate for another 2 years if you wish...it's called the FutureTech ready program, and is a benefit to the rental program for all new All-In-One customers who activated with ExpressVu after mid July 2006 (i think, somewhere around there).

a new AIO customer that signs up for 2 years gets free installation and 50% off for six months...for fun, let's assume the customer takes the "standard" essentials package at $54 (it is the most popular)....free install is worth $100 and the "deal" on the programming is worth $162...if you cancel your contract, the ETF is $150...you are saving $262, and the ETF is almost half that...just wanted to point out that the penalty is NOT that bad, as the incentives to sign the contract far outweigh the penalty.

I got the letter today informing me that I will be seeing a $5.00 price increase starting April 30th.

actually, Michael Sabia has turned down two bonuses since he has been in charge (about 5 years?)...just thought i would let you know that in case it makes you feel any better...it isn't common a CEO turns down several million dollars in bonus money (i don't know if i could pass on it myself).

actually, no they don't...the only part of bell they use is the local access loop (the physical lines and connection to a DSLAM)...the rest of the network is that respective ISP's network.

Forget about the letters...everytime I have to call EVu I get the same BS... "We can move you to a new package and SAVE YOU MONEY". I always ask for a quote and as I said after seeing what the new bill would be every single CSR has said never mind! One CSR said they had the same package and they had no intention of ever changing.

Not only is it only $64 I get the movie channel(s) in that price!!!

Since there is going to be a price increase, is BEV at least going to move from MPEG2 to MPEG4 for a better picture quality on the SD channels?

What is locked is what you signed up for. If you sign a rental contract, than the rental prices won't increase, but the programming might...

They should've mentionned that to you when you activated.

I hope not. I don't want to have to buy a new receiver on top of everything else.

Yeah but Sabia just accepted a 4 million plus raise last year when they cut loose 1000 jobs, trust me I know first hand that Sabia is running Bell into the ground. Not to mention like I said there will be 27 or 28 price inccreases this year alone right across Bell/Sym/ExVu/Mobility.

No plan that we heard for new SD receivers, only the new HD receivers that we mention in the HD thread new BEV HD receivers 2007

I have HD as one of my themes and as I said RDS is something that I have grandfathered in for a dollar a month. I would have to have RDS as a theme under the new system.

Thanks for the reply though.

I hope BEVTechRep can answer my other question.

^you only have HD as a theme because of a billing screw up...HD was NEVER allowed to be chosen as a theme, but some reps didn't know what they were doing, and the old billing system technically allowed it to be done.

BEV will allow you to keep it, but it is something you were never supposed to get to begin with.

well, if you have had the same package for eight years, you haven't had many price increases on it...the rest of us just got a $4 increase.

You are considered new client after 6 months, not 90 days!

I tought this thread was about Legacy price increase, not contract term and policies

cccam -

My situation is similar to yours - and I've also been tempted to try Rogers. Only two things keeping me with BEV, for now :

1. I currently "rent" a 5900 for free ($10/month minus $10 credit per month).

2. I love the 30 second skip ahead button on my PVRs - and I understand there's no such button on the Rogers PVRs.

As for #1, my "free rental" is due to expire in December 2007. As for #2, maybe I just have to bit the bullet and live without the 30 sec skip?

This will all come to a head later this year when I get an HDTV set - I'll have to upgrade to something HD then. I'll consider myself a free agent, open to swaying by BEV or Rogers.

I was talking about Shaw Cable.

But for BEV you are correct it is 6 months.

Noelk....I agree...cost increases are a fact of life, I guess my rant is over what Bell does NOT do for existing long time customers.
PS..On ur PVR..I got a Pioneer 531 with HD and DVD buring capabilites..has 30 second skip and allows me to burn a progr to DVD that I like.
