Just got off the phone with BEV. I am a legacy subscriber who has HPI-1 and HPI-2 (horse racing) as part of my package. Apparently, when BEV moved the HPI channels to a different satellite, I lost them from my channels. Phoned tech support to have them re-installed, but was told they couldn't make any changes to my legacy setup. I would have to to pay an ADDITIONAL $9.99/month to get back what has always been included in my package!!:(

I understand that if I change my package, I will not be able to keep my legacy package. But, I'm NOT changing it......I just want what I had before, nothing more, nothing less!

Anyone else had this problem, and is ther any solution or number I can call to get a satisfactory resolution?

Sorry, partner. You are "grandfathered in" to your package, but now that you need a dish upgrade, they consider all bets off, and want to upgrade you to a newer package. Sad but true.

I know I'm "grandfathered"...but I have two dishes and get HD!! The problem is not with me, it's BEV's computer system not letting the tech guys turn HPI back on!!

Three days ago, I got HPI.....been getting it for years. It's only because of BEV's computer system that I don't get it now. Why should I pay an extra ten bucks a month for what I had three days ago?

The HPI channels were moved for all subscribers at the beginning of June and are ONLY available individually for $5.00/mo. Even the current package subscribers who received those channels as part of the "Sports 2" theme pack lost them. Expect a lot of this sort of thing. I don't think they are very keen on preserving the legacy bundles. To get those channels you will likely need to update your package and subscribe to them individually like everyone else has to.

Although it sounds like you got a good explaination from Kloraff on your issue, on the subject of "grandfathering", I believe (and I could be wrong) that this is done as a courtesy rather than a requirement. The contract with EV states that they can increase the rates, repackage programming etc and you would be subject the new rates/changes.

Typically though, when possible - and there could be outside legal reasons or provider changes - not EVs fault - EV allows customers to remain on their existing package and a fixed rate (except "system" fee changes) until they want to make a change to their account.

I'm not saying this isn't a EV initiative, but I am saying that it could easiy be something HPI changed as well.

Kloraff, are you SURE that they were moved for ALL subscribers? From my discussion with the techie, people that previously had HPI continue to get it, it's only new subscribers that pay the $5 charge. The movement of the channel was a technical issue where they shifted the source to a different satellite...the channel number remained the same. There is no problem with non-legacy subscribers getting the channel.

I can appreciate that BEV may want all legacy subscribers to switch to the newer packages (more $ for them), but until they force ALL subscribers to change, I don't feel that I should be singled out. I'm playing by the rules they themselves set up. My Super 6 package contained TRN (now HPI), so I shouldn't lose the channel because of technical glitches.

Well, for the last two weeks or so, pressing INFO on those two HPI channels (478 and 479) revealed a message stating that as of June the two channels were only available individually for 5$/mo. I used to receive the channels too as part of the Sports 2 package and lost them at the first of the month, so if a tech told you otherwise he may have been mistaken. Odds are, there is no way to get them re-added without being willing to pay extra for them.

The most recent Uplink report even shows the channels being moved for everyone.

Channel Package Flag Changes:
478 - HPI-1 - Nimiq1/4 91W TP 15 Canada/Non SE US beam changed channel package flags
479 - HPI-2 - Nimiq1/4 91W TP 15 Canada/Non SE US beam changed channel package flags

The liklyhood of you being able to keep the legacy programming for much longer will probably be slim to none. You'll liklly get a nice notice soon saying that they value your continued support and realize that you enjoy your current programming but due to over head cost (Likly blamed on rising fuel costs) that they need to increase your monthly rate by $5 to $10. And they generally keep doing it until you're in line with what others are paying and getting less service for.

I've had 2 of these and thats eventually when you just give in and get onto their new packages which will likly change in 3 months again anyways. I'm waiting for an increase in the $10 HD package which i'm sure will be comming soon or in the fall in time for new TV season to bring ppl in line with thier new HD theme packs.

It is not a courtesy, but a contract (for the earliest subs who are still on those Legacy packages). My contract guaranteed no increases in my Programming, and that I could keep my bundle until I changed the package. The package was one of the original bundles and the guarantee was to get people to sign up with ExVu. They really regret those of us who hang on to our Legacies!!!!

By the way, I have my original contract in a file and a copy tacked up on my corkboard!! LOL

Fair enough. I believe the price guarantee contracts were a short lived thing and have not seen one myself.

In that case, go for it :)

It is great fun when I have to call ExVu... the CSR tries to get me to upgrade my programming... They always tell me the new packages are cheaper as there is no addn IRD fee and the Sys Access fee is less. I say "..can you make it cheaper?" and a few minutes later there is a "...ummm no! It will cost you over $100 for the same channels (plus a few additional that I don't care about). I currently PAY (incl tax) $60 odd dollars and I have the Movie Central and Super channels, networks and lots more.
