Left arm trouble.

Hi, I wasn't exactly sure what section to put this in but here it goes,
I'm actually only 16, but for the past few weeks I've had a lot of pain in my left arm, I shall try to describe it as best I can.

Basically it started just above my elbow, in the direction towards my shoulder, it
didn't hurt constantly but whenever I would move my left arm or put the slightest bit of pressure on it to left anything I would get an agonising sharp pain that got worse depending on how much I tried to carry or how excessively I moved it, also after the sharp pain had went away, as this was instant it felt could and as if blood was trickling down the inside of my arm, after a week this pain move to just under my shoulder, getting worse now as I move my shoulder a lot more.

Anyone had similar problems? or know what is wrong with me?

I read a few threads, 1 showed my problems on a Heart Attack, but I'm not too sure about that, the other was something to do with your tendons.

Hey JoeDonnely, welcome to the boards...

I'm sorry to hear about the pain in your arm. You mentioned that you were 16, and I admire you for taking responsibility for your medical questions, and are seeking some opinions. That is proof that you are maturing into your adult life in a smart way. I appreciate that quality.

If I may ask you a few questions, in order to better help you, with your questions?

How did the initial pain begin? Was there any trauma to the elbow, shoulder, arm, neck, head? Did you fall, play sports, swim, anything, when the pain started?

Have you shared this with your parent/s? Are you using ice, a sling, aspirin, ace bandage, on it?

My recommendation is to stabilize the arm, alternate 20 mins cold pack, and 20 minutes heating pad, aspirin, until you can see a doctor. Do not try to use the arm, elevate it, and rest when you can. I am anxious to hear back from you, OK?

Hi, thanks for the reply so quickly, my answers to your questions are as follow:

How did the initial pain begin? Was there any trauma to the elbow, shoulder, arm, neck, head? Did you fall, play sports, swim, anything, when the pain started?

Well it was pretty sudden, I was just putting pressure on my arm to stand up, and the pain was instant to the back of my elbow, I'm 100% it was not caused by any trauma to the listen areas, or any other area for that matter, it was also not caused by sports as all my groups are on holiday at the moment, so taking part in football, swimming etc. is pretty minimal at the moment.

Have you shared this with your parent/s? Are you using ice, a sling, aspirin, ace bandage, on it?

I currently live with my mum, who I have shared it with, and I did use an ice pack on my elbow while sitting down, watching tv, eating dinner and then had some sort of lavender heat pack on it. The pain didn't stop however it did leave my elbow and move to below my shoulder a week later.

Thanks, for the recommendations, I will try some if not all of them.

Hey Joe,

You have done everything right, it is a mystery, isn't it? Will your mother be able to get you into a doctor, because that is the next step. Typically, if a week passes without any improvement, and actually gets worse...means some treatment is needed. You seem like a smart young man...good for you!

I hope that your arm is on it's road to recovery...
