Leather is going to be much easier to clean than suede. However, there is the scratching and unintentional claw marks that show with leather.
If your cats are furniture scratchers, there is not much you can do either way unless you are willing to do some intensive training. Get them a scratching post and keep it close to the furniture. Have a spray bottle with water on hand to spray the cats in the face every time they try to scratch your furniture. Be consistent and spray them for every infraction on any furniture, not just the new lounge. Rub the post with catnip to attract them.
If you don't want to do the work, you will have to live with the scratch marks no matter what the fabric.
